    Hospital Scrap

Today i got a call from a friend who works at a hospital asking me if I wanted some old Sony printers. I said sure I'll take whatever you got and he brought it over this afternoon. They are actually Sony UP-5600MD Color Video Printers for medical images. He brought me 5 and they weight 32 pounds each. They have about 2 pounds of high grade boards in it, 2 small motors, 3 windowed eproms (no gold ), some other boards I'm guessing are mid grade, and the rest is all steel with some minimal plastic. I've only done one so far and I'll try to do a breakdown later. He also said they have to dispose of a bunch of old stainless steel medical kits when they move into the new building so I'm working on those now. These are kits with scapels, scissors, and stuff in them they use for operations.

I also brought home two Watchguard firewalls that I replaced for a customer. They units I took out are functioning just have to be destroyed since they were replaced as part of a promotion. I've never broken into one but they are actually just like computers inside. There is a nice 1.5 pound motherboard, full size RAM, and a processor. The case is also a thick steel case with some nice weight.

Anytime you can get medical stuff grab it, it's always high grade and will at least mid grade boards,ss,al,and steel only a little plastic. I've always done good with medical equipment.

Thats great! I have a hospital as a regular customer and they call me every few weeks to pick up a truckload of stuff and there is some great stuff from hospitals. Keep up the good work.

Determine never to be idle. No person will have occasion to complain of the want of time who never loses any. It is wonderful how much may be done if we are always doing.

Id take one of those old ss medical kit cases if the have latches and open and close. pay you alot more than scrap for it and cover the shipping cost. Id like to use it for survival/first aid supplies.

Some years back I worked at an orthopedic company that made hips, joints, plates, screws, etc. Some of the "kits" they put together for the hospitals contained forceps of different lengths and their brand was titanium. Had a dull grey look to them, lighter weight than a similar stainless item.

I would also be interested in one of the first aid kits if they still have medical supplies in them. Ditto on paying more then scrap and covering shipping.

Looks like those med kits are a big hit. Why can't I get good stuff like that?

Let me know what you would want to send one my way (and exactly what is in it)

Well if I can get my hands on them I will let everyone know what I have and go from there. Might be another week or two before I can put my hands on them.

Sounds like a good source. My yard won't take any metal hospital scrap ( wheelchairs, beds etc.) they say it's because of the radiation used in patient tests.
