just trying to get a handle on batteries - correct me if I'm wrong.
NiCad - no value (pay to get rid of *except call to recycle places)
Li-ion - sell to a "buyer" not a yard
Lead acid - sell to most yards Do most yards accept the small lead acid batteries (6v) from kid ride on toys or just "full size"?

Those small ones are almost like lawn mower batteries, or UPS batteries. I know my yard takes them any size,(this is a place where size doesn't matter) lolOriginally Posted by KrazyK

I sold my l ion batteries to a buyer here at #1.80 and cell batteries at #1.25. $80.00 dollars. For something I get free and toss in a box.

I know that they have some value. When things slow down a bit I will look into it closer. As for now they don't take up much space and are pretty easy to set aside. I have the good fortune of having ample warehouse space.
There may a million better places to live than Iowa, but none of them are home!

i have an opportunity to get some batteries from surge protectors. the guy said they were apc batteries. i dont know anything about them but i googled apc batteries and lead acid came up. anybody know about these types? if i go and they dont have "lead acid" on the label is there a way i would know from glancing at them if they are something i want?

I have always turned in APC batteries in with car batteries.

I scrapped over 1000 lbs of backup systems yesterday......They yeilded around 500lbs of batteries and 200 lbs of transformers (rough estimates)

Yep their just a smaller sealed lead acid type almost like a smooth top motorcycle size.

A few weeks back I took in a whole pallet of batteries from battery back-ups myself. At the same time I took in a whole pallet of ballast (non-PCB). I had them both on separate pallets. When I got to the yard I found out that both had to be stacked with cardboard between the layers for them to accept them. So i had to unload both pallets onto different pallets and insert the cardboard in between each layer. It was a lot of hard work doing this. I will not make that mistake again! Both pallets were 6 layers high. My back still feels it.

I am really new to scrapping. There are local battery shops around here that are currently paying $13 per auto battery. No really sure atm how the math works out, but it seems like that has to be better than less than a buck a #. Guess I really need to get a scale.

Car batteries average 35.4 pounds. $13 works out to approx .36/lb
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Around here I have 3 buyers at $5, $8 and $12 per auto battery. Cant figure out why such a difference for the same item. Of course the $5 guy is closest and the $12 guy is the farthest away!

My guess would be that the "5" and "8" guys sell to the "12" guy and the "8" guy is just trying for them harder than the "5" guy.

check out the ewaste buyers on this site, a few of them buy laptop batteries
