Thanks Brasscatcher for checking in on my thread! We set a goal to move to a different part of cali (Chico) where I have family and getting the 5th wheel was a step that would help us get there faster then trying to rent and save to move, this way we can have a little nest egg , so when we move we can pay rent space at a trailer park for awhile (later down the road maybe put a down on a small house) and find local jobs there and not be stressed on how to find income.

Right on Sirscrapalot! It really did cut down on my scrap storage moving into the 5th wheel dont have a backyard to store stuff in anymore, but the upside is there 4-5 scrap yards within a mile of my new location so my way of scrapping will just have to change from being able to break stuff down alot and getting full profit to just snagging certain items that are easily reached and rest will go in the metal bin and just take what ever i got at the time in, instead of stock piling metal and taking it in as a big load....it will be interesting for sure!.......I personally like living in rv's/trailer's myself lived in a travel trailer for a number of years myself , this will be the first time tho for the wife but honestly i think she likes smaller dwellings also, we had a 3 bedroom house and it was just to much space for us and a dog(our kid), only really used the garage and lived most the time in the master bed room, then we moved into a 1 car garage(which is pictured in this thread on page 3) that was converted into a studio/small 1 bed, and that was perfect for us space wise for the past 2 years, and moving into the the 5th wheel we really only lost some walking space compared to the converted garage and the back yard.....when we move i a year or so our plans are to still live in a rv/trailer so either the 5th wheel will becoming with us or maybe upgrade to a newer model!dont know if you ever did anytime of rv remodeling but i do have a couple questions on updating a trailer as far as inside lighting and other things so ill shoot you a p.m

Maybe rent a small storage unit for the bigger loads, break it down there and haul it in. Could probably pay for itself easily.

I actually thought about that I had a pretty decent size shed in my backyard that held all my tools and classic car parts and ebay items i sell, i dismantled it and loaded it and everything that was in it into a small storage unit until i get done moving and while i was there today trying to find some carpentry tools for a side job i have this weekend i said to myself "if i get a bigger unit i wouldnt be digging through everything , and could use the room for scrapping" funny you mentioned it also, i think that will be in my future plans when i get done remodeling the 5th wheel which is kind of hard to do while im also living in it! LOL thanks Mecanic688 for the great suggestion!

Well Im Back At It!! First real scrap run since i moved into the fifth wheel ,yesterday i did a electrical job at a church, and got to take home three huge light fixtures that take up have my truck bed that we demo-ed out of a ceiling,and some smaller can light fixtures, also picked up a couple computers, and today had a carpentry job and installed a new door/jamb and while i was there I was given a old zinsco panel and mast with the aluminum wires (no breakers) and a old bed frame, also have some misc metal in there like bike rimes and etc..




striped the aluminum wire of its coating:


striped the fixtures for the wire (12ga and 10 ga):


and now that im in lack of space untill i get my storage and theres no decent ewaste buyers in my area i decided to strip the comps of easy to grab parts and easy to sell on ebay for the power supplys,ram,and cpu's,heatsinks, rest will go in the metal pile,and the zinsco deadface and cover panels i will sell for a easy $70-100 on craigslist since they are always in demand for people trying to get there house passed for inspection and most of the time missing them over the years:


and in the morning ill throw in my two barrels of cans and bottles and head to the yard!

hey, that's my neck of the woods! I'm there daily working. I've enjoyed your thread and your truck. My work truck is a 91 Dodge 3/4 4x4 with the cummins turbo diesel.

Nice looking rig! was that picture taken over looking the honey run?looks like that area in the back round , I come up and visit family in chico every once and awhile itll be awhile before i make the move up there ,but sooner or later you should see my truck driving around up there!




Today I got a call on one of my craigslist adds and i went and picked up a riding lawn mower and some misc. metal:


Swung back by the 5th wheel and loaded up the rest of the metal i had to top the load off(not pictured), being limited on space to try and repair the thrown belt (it supposedly ran) and store untill i could sell on craigslist I looked up a local mower repair shop in my area via google, and sold it as-is for a quick $40 bucks to get it out of my truck , and took the rest to the scrap yard for another $35, not bad for a few hours out of the day..
