    One less on the hunt

Tuesday night when I got off of work at 10:00pm, I saw one of the local scrappers in the parking lot when I drove threw with his truck hood open and steam pouring out. Blown radaitor im guessing. I dont wish car troubles on anyone because ive had my fair share of troubles in the past. I thought to my self that this guy aint ganna be out scrapping tomorrow. I see him out every Mon, wed, Thurs, nights, Well he wasn't. I loaded the truck on the way home. Here is what i found. Im not going to include my mountian dew can i brought home from brake.

    3-golf clubs
    2-3ft conduit pipes
1-Crt monitor (made by Hyundai??? in 1991)
    1-50 in projector tv
    1-ceiling fan
    1-car rim
4-pieces of alum ext. door trimming
    1-wheel barrow
1-top of a metal garbage can that got ranover
    1-6ft tall lamp
    2-floresent shop lights
    1-metal grate thing.
    1-4ft metal gutter
    1-dishwasher rack
    1-roof top antenna
    1-8ft peice of alum sideing

And i had to cut a cord off a big screen tv. No room for it and it was made of wood. Yeah, I got it all in there. Thank goodness for ratchet straps

Greytruck, you could have offered to buy his scrap from him and it might have helped him out giving him money to fix the truck and you might have made a little profit from the exchange, and a friend. Can't have too many friends,,,

I know most industry's are this way but scrapping seems to be the most dog eat dog of them all. If someone has to step on your toes to get that next cord they will. But look at it this way.

If the guy in the broke down truck comes across something to big for him to haul he is going to let it sit and rot till he can find a way. Now if you had stopped to help him not only could you have got his load but he might remember you helping him and call to see if you can haul what he cant.

Like Mechanic said, you can never have too many friends, especially those who are also scrappers.

One never knows what the future might bring; and, friends are always more valuable than a couple of bucks here or there. Next time, you could be the one stuck on the side of the road. I have to vote on the side of having done what you could to have helped him out.

I posted this to show how much a difference it makes with one less scrapper out doing runs. Its nice to see some people still will stop to help out our fellow man. I had my truck break down at the scrap yard once and i forgot my cell phone and no one let me use there phones or offer a ride so i walked home 12 miles. so what goes around comes around

It's why I go out, even when I break even or loose that day. Whatever I get is less for the other guys. It's nothing personal, every business does this.

There wasn't a pay phone anywhere along those 12 miles?

That sucks that no one would help you. Yard wouldn't let you use the phone?

I asked the yard guys what to do or if there is a tow company around. They said to lock your doors cause we are not liable for anything that can get stolen and there is not a tow place around. told me to have the truck out by closeing time tomorrow. The first 4 miles past the pallet factory are forest preserve and railroad property. I did get caught by a train for about 15 minutes. Then its Harvey. Not a city to be in if you dont have to be. I kept walking trying to get home asap. I got stubbern and decided that im going to walk the whole way home. 5 hours later i made it home.

Truck problem was, bad started = ground flywheel
