OZ copper rounds - true or false

I did some math if any one spots errors let me know cause I am doing this for knowledge

Lets use the copper rounds as the test subject , The idea behind the CU round is - value to occur based on hyperinflation , governmental collapse , devalued USA mint coins , causing people to use 1 oz coins as barter or sell off as bullion .
So lets see the reality As copper spot price will still be the driving force to non government coin value ( just like silver rounds )
currently via the INTERNET people are buying copper rounds from $1 to $3 & I have seen $4 In general the true going rate is $1 per once or per coin
    -------------------------------------------
It takes 9 Copper pennies to equal 1 oz or .9 cents face value with a melt value .20 cents from a spot copper price @ $3.3755 / pound

    -------------------------------------------
So lets be realistic what will copper spot price have to be to just get even if you purchased CU rounds @ $1 per 1 oz coin
    1) @ $1 per oz coin = copper will have to be in the area of $1.06 per once = CU @ $17.00 per pound
    2) @ $2 per oz coin = copper will have to be in the area of $2.12 per once = CU @ $34.00 per pound
    3) YOU GET THE IDEA - So never say never as to future metal prices but for sure copper hitting $17 a pound
    gonna take some time
Clearly I do want some copper rounds but, I see only if I can get them at a low cost . I used a spread sheet
I feel a 1 oz copper round is worth .11 because of the minting effort and pure copper content
    --------------------------------------------
IMO - Conclusion paying $1 or less even I think copper spot some day could do it but we will be in such a hyperinflation AND this where I'd like some input from others with more knowledge. I don't really see the copper rounds as the best investment as we need a big jump in copper spot It will be a unprecedented event when copper jumps like that , yet It can't hurt to have some CU rounds around just in case.
    --------------------------------------------

You seem quite fascinated with copper.

Here's a pic of a few copper pieces out of heat sinks.

Just collect pre-1982 pennies. They're a known value and you will be getting them for less than spot price.

I have some of those heat sinks I just don't have the hart to take apart yet. Yes I have a obsession with copper, The question is when to sell , So many speculators say this and that I also see the potential that copper could go down . I feel there will always be a use no getting around that. But what real future does plastic have in store . I feel plastics , Polymers , Different types of composts (man made ) could minimize the need for copper also . Case in point cars Radiators utilize plastics that probably do as well as the really old brass RAD's How about intake manifolds made of plastic instead of Aluminum . Polypropylene is used with shot guns ,in time that is what i feel will be competition Any time you see some thing that used to be be copper become plastic that is also a reality. Well maybe some day there will also be Plastic Yards . But you never really know if these years now might be the time to sell copper . If copper little by little becomes regulated to wiring some electronics will that be enough . I know China is making massive generators that as of now need lots of copper - completion around 2016 is the prediction I know I am not all that worldly , so I hope there are uses for copper that I know nothing about , that continue to make it a very important base metal and investment.

I was going to suggest the same thing. The original copper round. I think they are only 98% copper though. Which is still a great deal as far as I am concerned. I never thought about hoarding copper pennies, but hey, the price sure is right.

Up to mid-1982, cents were about 98% copper. The rest was tin and/or zinc depending on the year of issue. In the middle of 1982 the price of copper shot up so the Mint (with help from the zinc industry, natch!) changed the coin's composition to a pure zinc core with a plating of copper so that the color would be identical to prior issues. The plating now makes up only 2.5% of the coin's weight.

On that basis, since each coin weighs 2.5 gm, 2.5% of that (0.025 * 2.5) or about 0.06 gm is copper

This is just my opinion but....

We get those type of copper prices....your really going to wish you were in gold. 1 oz copper rounds?......uh no. Hoard copper?. Do it in pre '82 pennies if you really feel the need. There is no markup and they are everywhere (for now). Then do your best to trade your copper for silver and then your silver for gold if you want to stay ahead of the wave.

    Yep^

I slide the sawzall down into the fin, then cut on through till it touches the copper. Then they usually fall out, if not, a little tapping gets them out.

Paying $1 for 1 oz copper is just plain nutz. I f you feel a need to hoard copper go get a couple of $20 boxes of pennies and start sorting. As stated you will doubling your money right off the bat and have a universally accepted from of copper. As a hedge against hyperinflation it is impracticable to store that much physical copper. Sliver is, IMHO, the best bet.
As far as hoarding until price recovers the If you can wait you will be rewarded. The Gold to copper ratio has been artificially high for a long time , same goes for silver. Linky

Out of all the metals, silver is my personal favorite. But even though I like silver the most, and have silver bars and shot, for end of the world type stuff I have junk silver coins. The reason for this is because their values are well known, and the currency is recognized all over the world.

I know this was true in the past, I have no idea if it is still true today. US Fighter Pilots used to if they do not still do, carry British Gold Sovereigns or "Kings". The reason was because they were known all over the world, a recognized currency.

Why bother with copper rounds when there is so much copper coinage, US and otherwise, readily available for purchase. People all over the world know what American coins look like, just like everyone in the world, used to know what a British gold Sovereign was worth.

Ive been buying and accumulating the copper pennies. Ive been advertising and paying $3 pound for them. So far i have 4 big ammo cans full so about 400 pounds. 1 oz copper rounds are a rip off, always have been. The copper kilo bullion bars are a better option but still high at $6 pound when bought in bulk.

Your not gonna get a better time than right now to buy copper pennies. Several reasons why. 1. they dont make them anymore 2. they are still plentiful if you buy them 3. they can be bought around or less than spot price 4. They are one of the best items to HOARD there is 4. they are fractional copper 5. they are a high grade alloy that is widely recognized as copper

i use a jewelers scale with a backlit digital display and separate them out by weight, that way i have big numbers to look at instead of small numbers, my eyes are not that good either

it is also the best way to seperate out the 1982 coppers from the 1982 zincs
