    coin talk #2

After going through my child hood coin collection I don't really see any earth shaking coins no 1955 no 1909
many of my half dollars are 1967 I have some proofs sets at 1964 and under & some Ben Frank's

    So some questions.

My 1967 UN-circulated Kennedy half dollars if i use E bay as my example the silver value is the value
So am i better to sell off to repurchase higher % silver coins . Or keep cause they represent the lower value silver some say is also good to have (for the coming of monetary collapse ) basically a 1967 half has same silver value as two 90% silver dimes.

I also have my share of Ike's non silver & copper clad Kennedy . If I work them up on BAY I could sell a bit over face but not earth shaking (they will sit a long wile also) .Sure I see coin sellers on Ebay and they can try but they really aren't moving - Logic tells me sell off all my copper clads including bicentennial for pure silver coins My copper clads are in extra fine but not UN circulated as all were found as a kid with normal change.

    Any Advice ?

After fees and shipping you are gonna lose money. If your wanting to sell your collection off to reposition i would find a local collector/buyer. I like the idea of buying silver/gold at melt prices which can be easily done on auctions. I am not buying graaded coins at this time as the market for them has fallen out. All i am buying is gold and silver coins, and hoarding copper pennies and nickels. I dont sell any coins i just accumulate them. I have too much to even start to go into what i have. But if you google search jghilino pcgs you will find a few. Right now im at 500 registry sets and counting. =)

I also accumulate the 40% halves when I can find them at the bank, but after accumulating enough I will sell them locally (usually through craigslist), then purchase 90%. Less room and more readily accepted than the 40% halves

good answer, and that is why i primarily buy gold now, the sliver takes up too much room, the gold is for my retirement, the kids/grandkids can duke it out for the bulk of my collection

You are not worried about the last gold collapse that left Krugerands holders still under water even now?

I am talking about the last peak gold (1980's) when everybody was buying and are still under water.

    Gold?s next hurdle is 1980?s inflation-adjusted peak - MarketWatch

$875 in 1980, equivalent to $2319 in 2010 dollars. I purchased gold back when it was $350 ish and nobody wanted it, buying in now is kind of insane.

Yea we wernt involved in that the most we paid in the 80's-90's was $400. I think gold will still be a buy at $2000+ for several reasons. A major revaluation of the dollar in the future is the leading factor. All of the signs are pointing towards higher commodities prices in the future and to much higher inflation than we are seeing now. The gov is going to keep kicking the can down the road till people take up arms and force the issue. As a metal investor inflation is my friend, my holdings go up in value as my debts remain the same. Its the poor and the unprepared are going to get hit the hardest.

I don't think the ultra rich invest much in gold, they own companies that make them money (and they own governments to bail them out if the invest badly). The middle class are the ones who have some money and don't want to lose it (they don't have enough cash to have controlling interest in companies and stocks are pretty much a ponzi scheme). The poor could care less about inflation because their whole existance is spending all they make and whole industries are tied to pricing things the poor can afford (plus inflation makes their debt easier to pay off or simple default on). The middle class is going to fall apart soon enough so I don't see commodities doing that well down the road, eventually they will need the cash and there will be fewer buyers out there for it.

Most of the tech advances in the world were paid for by governments fighting wars or trying to keep ahead of the other countries. Most of that pure science R&D that started the microchip which eventually powers everything we use isn't going on anymore. The whole chip industry was started to build ICBM controls, going to the moon was funded for intercontinental ballsitic missile tech. These days all the cool gadgets are just off the shelf stuff with custom programming, nothing that will cause another wave of industrialization and wealth creation. What was the last tech company that actually had grounbreaking tech? These days its all facebook and Google type IPOs that don't create anything of value.

"You promised me Mars Colonies and instead I got Facebook" Buzz Aldrin on Why we stopped solving big problems

"A world population of more than seven billion people is growing rapidly, consuming the limited resources of our planet at an unsustainable rate while we also create environmental distress that may adversely affect our future viability on Earth. We now have a clear choice—to compete for the diminishing resources remaining on Earth (a closed system) or to coöperate in the exploitation of the limitless resources and opportunities evident in space (an open and expansive system). To me the choice is an obvious one"

A colony on another planet is not going to happen because of the costs involved. Austerity is just going to cause the next dark age and the population will decline quite a bit because of lack of water and eventualy lack of fuel (fertilizer) along with natural disasters.
