    My first scrap receipt!

Some of you may scoff at a mere 191 bucks, but by george it's my first scrap receipt.

I was a bit intimidated going to the recycle place... people scurrying this way & that, I didn't know where to go/what to do... and I hate that feeling of sticking out like a sore thumb.

Next time I'll have it down, though... and I'll take more stuff in, too. This was just to get a feel for the process with a light load.

So does anyone else still have their first one?

That (Export #1) was those circuit boards off of TVs. The one with the flyback transformer on it. I strip off every other transformer I can break apart & retrieve the copper out of, but I can't figure an easy way into those flybacks!

I'm keeping a lot of less bulky, higher grade, circuit boards for (hopefully) a better price.

TV's are mainly what I have been scrapping, since I can throw them in my work truck toot sweet while I'm out & about driving my route on my day job. I average about one a day, sometimes more.

After I strip them I've been buttoning them back up and putting them in the apartment dumpsters at the apartments I service. Sure wish I had a place that would take the CRTs at no fee so I didn't send all that lead to the landfill. Anyone know a place in DFW? I'll deliver.

My first ticket at the scrap yard was a grand total of $2.75, don't worry about getting scoffed at.

Nice work! I use channel locks to snap those fly backs off.

Yep, still have my first ticket and every one since. I was just as intimidated as you say you were. I just asked for help. Everyone was real patient. Pretty soon - nothing to it.

Don't even bother trying. I busted an older one and there was literally less than a handful of red copper that was hard as a rock. Not worth it.

bash the flyback with a hammer a few times until there is no more circuit board on it. Throw it in with transformers. Not worth your time to break apart.

Some yards will take them whole (flybacks) as CBM though at~.30#.

Nice load for a first trip. I was nervous too the first time. The more you go the easier it gets. I still have my first ticket as well...a whole $26.50

It's up to you on the flyback's but most places pay .25-.30 a lb for them. As heavy as they are they add up quick. I usually average around 50lb of xformers and small motors every trip in.

*Sigh* Looks like I'm gonna have to move... The yards around here don't pay very well. Just .08/lb for the low grade boards. Check with your yard before taking off the flyback transformer. My yard considers them low grade copper bearing, same price as the boards, so I just leave them on. I guess it's a sort of blessing in disguise in a way, since they are a PITA to get off the boards.

Yep, that's what I do. I smashed that one open because I had never seen a white one and it was extremely heavy. Curiosity got the better of me!

Did my first run today for a grand total of 143.14. Made a couple stops on the way home and picked up a good sized load of aluminum window frames, next run will hopefully be larger. I went in for the same reason to get a feel of how things worked. I did notice that your yard paid 2.85 for #2 copper, I only got 2.60 for #1.
