Surprising cost of scrap

I had been helping move fixtures around at work to make room for merchandise for the Christmas season. We had placed a couple of shelving pieces in the electrical power room and I had noticed a lot of wire laying around inside. I asked my boss if they wanted to get rid of any of the wire. He said that it wasn't needed for anything and that I could have it all, one catch though. I couldn't just walk out the front door with it because that would be considered stealing from the company. Therefore I would have to pay for anything I took. He asked me if .98 cents was a fair price for everything. I checked out the next evening with a full cart for .98 cent minus my employee discount (crazy). Its the obvious places that scrap is found.


These pieces were left over from 2005 when the store was first built.

1. Half a spool of THHN wire
2. 12 steel armored cable with 4 wires encased (15 ft each)
3. 15 bags of CAT5 (3 ft each)
4. 6 broken power strips with 6 plug holes
5. Other random pieces of steel weighing over 150lbs.
