    I'm still stunned

I made it a point to go out on trash night this week and try to interact with other scrappers that were out there. I asked if they had any ewaste they wanted to make money on and make space for more. First guy I spoke with had no idea what ewaste meant and the towers he sells at shred price. Second guy thought I was looking for a bathroom to get rid of my ewaste. Really!?!? After the confusion was settled he said he strips each tower for copper and aluminum. Sells the motherboard for .75/lb. I asked how much he gets for a processor and had no clue what I was talking about. Said he sells the board whole. I told him that I would give him 5 bucks a tower and he looked at me like I was insane. He said he gets 30 towers a month and would call me. It's been 2 weeks and no phone call yet.

I went to a local yard today to cash in on aluminum, brass, and other misc. things.

    Light ballast .01/lb
    Brass irony .25/lb
Aluminum heat sinks went as aluminum clips .52/lb

I asked about two motherboards I took with me and got quoted .05/lb
I said no thanks. I had three printers in my trunk that he noticed. He said that they don't take electronics but I can donate them to the yard. I use to really like coming to this yard. What happened!?!?
When I cashed out I asked the cashier about their pricing on motherboards for cpu's. .05/lb was the magic number. I asked if they sell any CPU towers or boards and they will not sell anything. Are they really ripping people of this bad?

I feel ya my yard buys boards and computers as tin 6cents I gave them a price list and they said no which I understand if say they were selling it but so far they are only sitting on it but maybe one day and for most of the scrappers around here they may do some but its an open market for me here and I am trying as fast as I can to create a solid base for years to come and retire on maybe not rich but good money to have lol

I wish I could open up a shop to compete with these yards and at least give a better incentive on ewaste.

Typically most scrap yards cannot sell anything back to you (or the general public) without a retail sales license.. which most recyclers don't have. It's the same way with the car crushers- The cars that they have in their yard probably have thousands of dollars worth of parts on them but they only pay out $300 to $500 and refuse to sell you any parts.

I told him that I would give him 5 bucks a tower and he looked at me like I was insane. He said he gets 30 towers a month and would call me. It's been 2 weeks and no phone call yet.
Probably because he's trying to find out where he can get more than $5.

My yard buys boards as copper bearing .15 to .20 depending on the duration of the high $ of copper , So TV boards are ok but I wont give my computer boards away . What bugs me is they do sort and have a container with high grade. Even when I say, I see you have a high grade Board container. so will you pay more for my computer boards ? they say no.
Can't say I blame them if they can do it - thats the biz.

I buy computerboards from my local yard. They buy at .15/lb and I buy from them at 2.00/lb. Most still have cpu chip still attached. I can sell at average 3.00/lb. Processing/sorting time is minimal. 500lb for $1000.00 Two hours to process. Two hours to drive to my buyer. Minus 10lbs weight of cpu chips, minus $50.00 gas, that's $1420.00 not including value of cpu chips. Who cares what someone else makes,I'll take a 50% return all day.
