Question What can you fit in a Subaru Outback?

2 large totes, 14 CRT's and 6 computer towers! [I had to leave 2 CRT's behind] Got the load last Sat. and it is all broken down. Had 4 CRT's stripped so I dropped them off at Goodwill on Sun. when we went in town. They asked me if I wanted a receipt. Can I claim the "donation" on my taxes?
Tomorrow if Fire Extinguisher Day! They want me to discharge them, take the valves out and take a chisel to the threads before I take them. The good part is one of my local yards will take them without cutting then in half. I will drop the tanks off on my way home and mess with the valves later. If this works out I have another lead with another extinguisher company. They are taking them to a local transfer station and paying to get rid of them.

If its making you money thats all that matters. As far as claiming the donations on your taxes you have to make a certain amount before you can do so. Cant remember off the top of my head what the amount is.

The time it took to break down the extinguishers was not worth it to me. In about 7 hours, including traveling, I made $50. I know I would be faster if I did it again because the first hour was getting set up and being told how to do it. When I was doing the extinguishers I noticed a pallet of used lead acid battery's. I asked about them and he said someone takes them, I think it is who they buy new battery's from.
Anyone have a rough weight of a pallet on smaller lead acid battery's 3 to 4 feet tall?
At around .20 a pound it must be a chunk of change.
I am wondering if I can work out a deal with taking all the scrap for processing the extinguishers or they can pay me X for every extinguisher.
Anyone have any suggestions on how I should proceed?
They are down an employee that did this so if I could contract to get all the recycleables this may work.

the least amount of money i have ever made on fire extinguishers would be the smallest steel ones and i can still make $10(thats only 100lbs) an hour on those popping valves and cutting them in half, thats just the steel because i break down the valves later which i make a good amount more on. you just need a good vise, ratchet strap to go over the vise and around the extinguisher for larger extinguishers, a pipe wrench and a cheater bar to take out the valves. the key is repetition do the same thing over and over, as far as charging you may try a small fee of like 10cents on the ones with chemicals but you can sheer a sheep its whole life and only skin it once
