    Stolen Scrap and Tools

We got hit last night. They cut a lock on conex box and stole about $150 of scrap and $300 worth of tools. Band and reciprocating saws, drill and socket set. etc......
I notified police, called the two close scrap yards and I am going to visit pawn shops and watch Craigslist for the next couple of weeks. Hope I get lucky and catch them.
I already was lucky that 2 days ago we took in $2450 worth of scrap. Wheeeeeeeeeeew. That would have hurt.

Hope they catch those jerks and throw the book at them - and also that you get it all back, of course.

Hope you get your stuff back...we had pretty much given up on getting my sons car back and it was found recently.

Woah! That's good news KZ I hope it wasn't torn up.
I thought earlier to submit the fact that most of my losses have generally been instigated by persons closer than I cared to know. Even one I didn't know turned out to be someone who'd been driving almost alongside me for miles.
Did yours turn out to be such a case ?

have you ever seen Braveheart? Seen what they do to him at the end? Kinda have the same unkind thoughts about thieves and what should happen to them. In Saudi they cut off the hand or fingers. If we did that there would be a lot of people in Washington D.C. pointing elbows at each other!

I'm thankful to live in a great neighborhood, we'll shoot each others attempted thieves, and people know it... sorry to hear about your equipment taking a walk on you. Maybe start storing water in a couple gas cans next to where you park and see what happens?

Mess with a mans scrap that's one thing. But to mess with his tools is just outright disrespectful and wrong. Hope the stolen items are recovered and the low life sorry POS thief is dealt with properly.

Make sure to specify to any involved, that you were merely storing water in those containers with no provocation, otherwise, as ludicrously stupid as it sounds, litigation can come back at you in our sue-happy society :-p

Sorry to hear such news again. Really wish there can be a reliable solution for this in the future.

Had a bunch of my construction tools stolen a number of years ago and my tool belt was one of the things taken. To have something taken that I wore 8 hours of the day pissed me off more then the sliding compound miter saw they took too. All for what...to get the crooks a buzz for the day/night???

I agree. You can always get more scrap but when you steal a working man's tools, you steal his livelihood. IMO I think that tool theft should carry much stiffer penalties than the law allows for petty theft.

Friend of mine had his ipod stolen, 6 months later he's on a college campus being called to a student passed out drunk. He's an EMT. As they are putting the kid in the ambulance he notices his ipod and looks on the back. It's the inscription that his mom had placed on it for his 21st birthday. It even had all his songs still. Needless to say they took the long way to the hospital.

I have a list of pawn shops near by. Between now and Monday I hope to get lucky. I am also checking Craigslist everyday.

Do you have a Topix forum where you live? A lot of the people on the one in my hometown are -well- not the most upstanding characters if you know what I mean ( there are always running discussions about who is or isn't a "snitch"). It would probably be a good place to offer a reward for the return of your stuff.

Maybe while watching the for sale sections of CL, also post an ad in the "items wanted" section looking for a tool similar to one that has been stolen, maybe one of the more expensive ones. The description should not match your stolen tool exactly but should be close. Of course it might still be too obvious but it's amazing how stupid (or too greedy to be careful) some thieves are...
