    Hard drive situation

From casual collecting I lost count of how many computers I have . And I have boxes of mother boards and cards also. I have many hard drives AND that is what I need help with,See some one I know approached me cause he needs lots of hard drives for a music storage project , He has some hard wear that allows him to slid the hard drive in then he plans to put music in and safely store hard drives away instead of DVD's. Since I do scrap metal with a vengeance I am willing to sell off my hard drives but I am not here to do any favors many things I will give away even when i know there is value BUT my metal thats different after all thats why I do it
I want to pull the utmost value from what I have.
I will take apart a hard drive to recapture the board AL SS ( so on )

THE QUESTION : What is a safe price to sell a hard drive as to cover the items that I can dismantle . further more some hard drives I have may have value of $80 for a 500 GB and this man I feel may only want to pay $10 to $20 per drive He wants all my hard drives ALL OF THEM If I sell them I want a good pay day !!

Copper Head, are all your hard drives wiped and tested? If not, then placing a value of 80.00 on an untested 500G hard drive seems a little unreasonable. You could charge him a flat rate per gig (say 3 cents per gig) with no warranty.

Jg, I think the point is that PTS is paying that much for a hard drive that is tested and proven to be good.

scrap price is $1.25 per lb x2.2 - shipping. any thing above that is a win + no hastlw or waiting.

how you handle it depend on the personality of the person your selling to. can you negotiate with him say starting at $5 per drive or is he one of those you cant talk sense to ?

the guy definitely understands storage gigs soooo Joes Idea of charging by the G is a sound one the guy may understand.

be sure he understands he is buying as is.

With a little time I can test them , I have kinda lost some enthusiasm for e bay AS I see once you start to sell more and more they seem to charge MORE also - Like I sold some copper time's 2 for $140 then more at $30 then miscellaneous sales at $50 so my $220 turned into $107 . after shipping and e bay fees Pay pal fees . Recently I had 25 lbs copper up for bid and was glad when it did not sell I took to the yard and was paid close to $70 no fuss no muss. I have a very good 100% rating but I see no bid wars going on for my items. SO the prices I see on E bay look enticing but before you know it they become your business partner . I tried to price a bit more to cover the cost - 10% more stopped peoples interest
He will pay from $5 to $10 per drive considering the time to dismantle $5 to $10 per drive I guess i'll be ahead , The deal I think might work is $10 each & he pays me only for the working ones , I scrap the others

See guys thats what is good about the off hand truth , We don't have to spill our guts about value - but E bay has working 500's at around $29 & it's not like there flying off the shelves - Still time for me to be what I am a Scrapper and sell smart .

Copper box them up and send them my way. Ill test them and pay your a fair price and you dont have to worry about ebay. This is why I started buying hard drives and such to begin with. I knew alot of people on the forums hated selling things on ebay. So I made a niche for myself here on the forum and so far I have had no complaints from the people who use my service.

The person who wants to buy them from me is the husband to my wifes friend, He has always been decent to me, so I'll sell some to him, then I need to get off the hoard wagon, studying Ebay - You tube - http://www.scrapmetalforum.com/elect...ification.html I need to decide when to sell .
Part of me says hold for years as I see I wish I had all my intact working XT's AT 286 386 486
and odd ball computers like an Osborn portable XT Tandy's commodore (and more) I see there would be no harm having them in any respect , back in those days I was a hoarder with out a cause
I just don't know if some thing similar will happen to my current batch especially with all that get dismantled these days - In 10 years some one for fun will want them ??? .each day when the precious metals are removed from parts , the antiquity is developing with the ones that don't get torn apart. I hope I don't kick my self for all the CRT's I take apart , some day some one will want vintage just for the heck of it . I have a nice IBM ( vintage ) and sure I can put a better monitor on it , but it is also just nice to step back in time and remember the look back in the day .
