ive thought about welding a gusset on each side of the winch and if that happened it would press into the wood, im also going to rewind the winch so the cable is coming from the bottom instead of the top just from a leverage point on bending the tubing. most cars will free role and it wont be an issue at all. sometimes im missing wheels or hubs or rearends are locked up and thats an issue, wrecks are the hardest but i think with the smooth ramps it will make it easier than it was. if i woulda had this trailer at your house the sunken wheels wouldnt have been a problem :) i coulda just lifted it out :) learning as i go i cant really find anyone that has a setup like mine to copy off of but im hoping for a trial run tomorrow

edit hey frank im trying to remember that trailer, is it long enough and wide enough to haul a car, my 94 cummins is still looking for a car hauler if its for sale that is

its funny you say this, harbor freight has a 5watt or amp for 14.99 i looked at it alot today and set it back on the shelf, i put batteries on a charger everynight so something like that would be nice to have

If you have the room to build a mirror brace under the frame and bolt them together you should be ok. Yea it would have made it easier to get it out. I started to suggest me yank it out with my truck then you hook onto it.

The H frame in the back was about 1200 lbs and buried in the dirt took a couple of yanks and it was out. If I'd had the tires you had I could have just put it in low and tugged on it :)

Maybe set the hub on a piece of 2X6" and with a little grease between them it should slide as your dragging it onto the trailer. Maybe,,,

oh we have our tricks :) i turn a floor jack into a spare tire works almost everytime on a hard surface or on the trailer, ur idea is similar to what we do on a soft surface we jack up the car and slide a piece of fender under the tire or hub and it works like a sled. extreme situations is where the problems ar, on average and just a guess here probably 1 in 20 we have problems with, we have come a long ways ive got it on here somewhere but the first car we loaded took us hours, flat tires, buried up and no key, of course we had a comealong and ratchet straps, we ended up breaking the comealong, we didnt have alot of money back then but went to walmart and bought an airtank and a little reese winch rated for like 1500lbs or 2000 and would alternate the winch and a ratchet strap releasing tension on each one. we used that little winch for a few cars and worked really well if evreything was free on the car

Cory, your posts always remind of the days I'd go with my grandfather to work. He ran wrecked/totaled cars from all over Va, to bring back to the lot in fredricksburg, va. The many times me and my cousin helped stick a bumper where a tire woulda been, for a soda an a hotdog no less. LOL. Yea,we were cheap labor. lol

Back in the day when cars and trucks had steel chrome bumpers, we had a piece of pipe about 3" round and 6' long. In the middle was a hunk of chain with about 2' sticking out of each end with a hook. If we were towing a vehicle we would put the pipe in between the two vehicles and take the chain and wrap it around the chrome bumper and lash it tight. Put one person in the vehicle to steer and the pipe would help do the braking if you kept it centered between the two vehicles. That way you did not have to worry about no good brakes or hitting the tow vehicle in the a$$.
