I have about 50 LCD projectors to tear apart so far I've done about 14 and the cases are magnesium! That's a first for me and I just wanted to share with everyone. I'm calling my yard tomorrow to see if i can get a better price than aluminum.

You can check between Ali & Magnesium by dropping a drop of HCL acid onto the metal, it should visably react with Magnesium & not much of a reaction with Aluminium. (hope thats right)
Also, I notice sometimes on the casting that they include the letters Mg or Al inside a circle. Sorta like they do with plastics.
What I though was Magnesium looked like diecast metal, a older greyish colour, but it was lighter than Ali.
It makes sense the projectors would be Magnesium, have to be solid, have to be screwed to the ceiling & have to hold the weight of the insides, while also being very very warm.

Al will react violently with HCl so don't throw a bunch in at once. Oxidised Al (alumina) will not react. Al will not react with nitric on any large scale but slowly over time or with heat it will react and ware it away. I had a pot do that last week with nitric in it. It lasted quite a while but it got thin and sprung a leak.

Just called my yard and they told me 45 cents a lb. Looks like it's going in with my aluminum. 70 cents is better than 45 cents lol

lets eee some pictures of the boards and gold you have found in them, im curious as ive never taken one appart, everytime i get one in it has more value as a nonworking parts unit than scrap so ive never had a chance to process one, the blubs are worth a small fortune if they are still good also

This is basically whats inside an lcd projector minus the plastic and glass
Peripheral Boards which I can sell on board sort for 2.25/lb
And these are lowgrade/midgrade so depending on where I sell them or what I do with them I can get between .15 and .45 cents/lb
There is some fans in there too I can get motor price .30/lb

You might want to check with some other buyers on this forum, as those "Peripheral Boards" pictured could get you more than $2.25...
