aside from me screwing up scotts post, i would imagine a regional would cost as much as a national to set up, this will be expensive to be done right, i think probably the national will be the only way, im sure they are just in the thinking stages and not planning but im looking forward to finding out
Would all depend on where it is and when it will be. With my wife and 2 kids, we try and make any trip into a mini vacation as well, so while I was there, they might go off and do a fun activity or something.

Only if my cooler is allowed to attend.
And if I can drive there within 16 - 18 hours I'm good.
Sirscrapalot - Loves a good road trip.
very interesting i am part of a shooting forum that does it attended one and had a great time hard to get this man out of his mountains but would go for a north east convention. keep the ideas rolling and raid sirscrapsalots cooler sounds like a good time to me
There ain't nothing wrong with an honest days work. Anyone who says otherwise is a fool.- Old Man
This is one reason i enjoy this forum much,Kuto"s to the Adm.Always thinking about new things that benefit its members.I think that first starting some local chapters around the U S A would be the way to start, like holding a meeting once a month say at a dunkin donuts restaurant just a idea. There are many advantages in numbers and at those meetings we could discuss them,One idea i have is to sell our goods to the end user bypassing the middle men (scrap yards and Brokers )another example of this is like F T D they are all independent owner operators that meet a certain criteria of quality in the flower business, how would you like to have your customers and future customers knowing that you and your company represent the best scrap metal, recycling company"s there are.I would welcome the opportunity to start a chapter in South Florida. Then hopefully on to bigger and better things.
great idea, I would go If health and $ will permit. but as with most conventions only the big guns can really afford it. I would rather have one national one but regional ones will probably draw more people over all.
I have a lot of experience with producing shows and would gladly provide some input.
"anyone who thinks scrappin is easy money ain't doin it right!"
Great idea i think!
I'm thinking you could get a block of hotels room at a reduced rate if you hold it at a hotel that has a conference center.
Have a confrence, with some speakers doing some presentations or workshops. Like some about Business and accounting, Enivromental concerns, Plastics, Marketing and Sales, and Licensure.
Have a vendor room/reception area with booths setup from different companies. Ask the vendors for door prizes to give away.
Maybe have some contests, like fastest break down of a computer or guess the weight of copper in a jar.
I'm sure you would be able to find Sponsors and Vendors to help manage the cost to make it better for SMF.
Sapp Brothers , Arcoa. are 2 large vendors who I think would be glad to put in some $ for display space and there are several others.
I used to work alot of conventions doing clean up etc...Nashville would be a good place (plus it's close to me).....LOL

Time and Place is the determining factor however its a great thing to consider
A regional event sounds like a great idea. I would consider attending.
I'd love to attend too, but like most folks here it would depend on time and location.
Our frito plant won an award back in 05 and we had a awards banquet at the Gaylord opryland hotel, you ain't had a trip till you drink a cooler full of beer at a spinning bar. I like Nashville Memphis St. Louis Kansas City Dallas Chicago Indianapolis Denver New Orleans Louisville, I'm an old motocross dad so I'm not afraid to drive anywhere
Oldude is right about the big guys, admission would almost have to be charged, of course the more vendors that would set up the cheaper it could be. I'm sure admin knows but I wonder how many of us are on here on a regular basis, I always look when I'm on and it's always the same 50 tp 60 people. I know a lot of guys log on and don't post a lot so I'm sure there's a lot more traffic than I realize. I'm just hoping a lot of guys and gals sign up
I'd be up for it. Centrally located would be good but anywhere is fine. I travel a lot and can drive 16 hours straight. Tater juice and jghilino we might have to carpool. I've got a Dodge Magnum with lots of room and it'll get us there fast!
I would try to make it.
Perhaps a poll is in order, admin? I would consider it, I also like the regional idea, where anyone could attend yet allow easier access to those not capable if traveling too far. Perhaps a second poll stating which region you live in could give you a better idea as far as number go. It might make your life easier.

This is definitely something that will take a long time to plan, I've wanted to do it for a long time already so I'm glad this thread is going.
As far as location, it would be a national thing, not a bunch of separate conventions. Naturally I'd like it to be somewhere everyone could enjoy regardless of the convention, Miami or Vegas or New Orleans or SF, if we're gonna do it we're gonna do it Likely will try to work a deal with a hotel wherever we decide that has convention halls there or closeby, to get deals for anyone who's coming to the convention.
We have ALOT more active members than that. Roughly 1500-2000 different registered members log-in to the forum at least once every 30-60 days. Either way there would be a cap on admissions, meaning regardless only so many people will be able to obtain admission until slots run out. I would think this limit could be no more than 200 attendees, but I'd say 100 is a comfortable number one could likely expect to make a commitment like this one.
I've been involved in several conventions and it's always a great time, networking and learning with other similar minds in the industry. The thing about having a national 'convention' rather than local 'meet-ups', you know only people truly serious and passionate about this business will go, which in all reality would make the experience a better one for everyone involved.
