To buy or not to buy, that is the question i'm asking

    Laser Jet Printer - GovDeals.com

Broken laser jet printer. no bids $6 should win in. I've checked on ebay, and there doesn't seem to be a high demand for any possible working parts. Granted I know If I make anything off scrapping it, its going to be minimal. But they also have a couple desktops for $5 too, so at least i'm not wasting my gas to pick up one small item. Any thoughts would be appreciated, as I've never scrapped a printer before.

my yard takes them whole as scrap. Minus the high grade board of course. So I would bid on it by weight.

the extra paper tray on the bottom should be worth a solid $20-$50 on ebay, as for the unit itself probably better off scrapping, but check just incase

get the desktops for $5 each, those are worth scrapping for sure
I buy and sell all types of scrap and escrap. I buy specialty and hard to sell escrap. I buy resale items. PM me or contact me at jghilino@hotmail.com
I AM ACTIVELY BUYING ESCRAP OF ALL TYPES. BOARDS, RAM, CPUS AND MUCH MORE

yeah, I know enough from past experience working with computers, that $5 is a steal, even on an older outdated model. I just have no real scrap knowledge of printers. Appreciate the info....Paper trays go for that much on ebay? I'll have to do some research then.

I know you said this one is not working but if you ever stumble on one that does for cheap, use up the remainder of the cartridge. I got a HP4100 for $5 that has several thousand copies left on it.

I do not buy coppiers or printers, I get tomany free ones. You would get your 6.00 back but not much more, keep looking for free ones and you'll do alot better and you'll be able to see what's all in it and what's involved in braking it down. Just my .02

I do think it's great that you are looking into buying scrap. That is all I currently do at the moment. To me that's way too much for a printer. By the time you spend the time and money to pick them up I don't think there is much meat left on the bone. I think your real problem is variety. You made a couple posts regarding GovDeals. As I'm sure you've seen, this is a heavily trafficked site. This traffic usually drives the price.

While I usually follow things on GovDeals and when I get a chance to buy, I get a super deal, I only pick up 1 or 2 auctions a month from this site. Think out of the box a little, look for other sites. If you have a real problem with this, send me a PM and I'll point you in the right direction. You need to be selective in what you put out money for or your going to nickle and dime yourself to death.
