Picked up a load of monitors today!

Thanks for all the input guys. Last night I drank too many Studweisers so I'm off to a late start lol. Expenses? About $20 in fuel on top of what I paid for them. Literally, there is a recycling yard a throw of a rock away and they will take every single one. I was just debating about saving all the plastic cause there is a buyer near me for that as well. But I will keep you guys updated today, my son will be here from SC at some point this evening so I'll prob have to cut it short, I will keep up with the hours and how much I made and give you the whole breakdown.

Thats great if you have a plastics buyer too...a bit more profit on the monitors helps...good luck....

I kind of wonder if CRTs will be collectable in 10 years when they are pretty much extinct. The only CRT monitors I know about that are worth anything are the old Commodore/Amiga ones, anything CGA or EGA working preferably IBM made from the 80's. Most of what is out there now are junky old DELL monitors.

Go for it bro, take your time and break down each one. Pile up the copper, aluminum, wires, boards, and tin and get paid huge. Put each one back together and drop off for free. Don't worry about the tube, you cannot win it all but you are still coming out a big winner.

Ugh... you did whoever auctioned them off a huge favor.. Free or not at all..

even at $3 on a low side that's about $400plus minus the expenses which should not be to high you have a place to get rid of them at even for me with a little gas and since so many I would just pay the $22.50 a load to dump the 2 loads maybe three cause I can usually get 50 or more in my truck with out breaking anything lol but even me at 3 loads plus 20 in gas and even paying that price still will make 200-300 out of it if I was adding this up for myself and you said based on what you did already will figure 10hrs to do them you did good at $20-30hr wages that way

I buy and process crts but i dont do a ton of them, about 80 year, they are a good supplenent to escrap and are good to have around when your out of other stuff to process

$3? thats pretty conservative usually the insulated wire brings that much alone, especially if they are including the power cords with them =)

Hey guys sorry for not posting any pics today, my son arrived around 1:00 today and was pretty excited to see him so once he got here we went and did some fishing. Tomorrow morning I will post some pics of the breakdown so far!

Ok so here's what has happened so far:

Wednsday: Left the house at 12:00 p.m. to pick up the monitors. Brought monitors back and worked until around 5. Broke down 33 monitors completely (including cleaning yokes and degaussing cable, clean boards). Yesterday I worked from 9:00 till my son go here around 1-1:30, broke down 60 monitors only cleaning the insulated, putting the yokes and the degaussing cables to the side to clean. I have 40 monitors left to disassemble then I'll finish cleaning up the boards, yokes and degaussing cables. So far I have around 9 hours in this so far. Here are a few pics:

I might work a little today and start a fire for my little one to give him something to do for a couple hours, then we're off to Outback with some family. What you don't see in the pics is the stack of plastic, some more gutted tubes, stripped cables/yokes,steel frames that hold the boards, box of transformers and aluminum. Some of the monitors had an aluminum heat shield (I'm guessing). I'll post some better pics when I have things a little more organized grouped up.

Oh, at the moment I'm not a scrapper full time but the extra income is needed. I get around 5-6 hours a day working with an online company (for those internet savvy). They pay 13.50 an hour and pay once a month direct deposit. Leapforce.com is the website. Those interested can just PM me for more info on how to apply to them. Good job there, that's a nice haul. You look to end up making a decent amount of $$ off of that deal.

I have found a few heatshields that are thin stainless screwed to tin sides, the back over the yoke is the stainless.

Ok so a question for you fellas! I called up Newell about 10 miles from me and they told me they pay .15 for all circuit boards, should I take my low grade boards here? Or do you feel like I can find someone paying more in Atlanta area? Thanks.

Thats about the best you are going to do for low grade boards. Make sure you take off any copper,motors,transformers and aluminum before bringing them in.

That's an ok price for the low grade, And the rest just like Brass said.

You got that right, especially if you got a daughter like me, good luck on breaking them down further. I usually make 5-7 a monitor, depending on whats inside. And wow! 32 in 3 hours, im pretty sure I could do the same if it was warmer that is. Last I checked I can gut 6 of them in 30 minutes, and still have to break them down further just to get the most for my money.
