Picked up a load of monitors today!

Hey everyone! I'm kind of new to e-scrapping but picking up on it fast. Today I went and picked up 133 monitors....won in auction paid about &.75 a piece for them. I can dump these for free to getting rid is not a problem. I may even break them completely down because I live close to Atlanta and can dispose of everything properly for free/paid. Only thing I can't get paid for is the glass (I think, correct me if I'm wrong). But here is a picture of the load, had to break down 2 pallets to fit on the trailer and strapped pallets on the sides of the trailer for re-enforcement (Shrink wrap was weak and I could just see the monitors toppling over the side of the trailer). Here's a couple pics. I broke down 32 of these when I got home in 3 hours. Tomorrow I will kill the load, I'll post pics and updated progress. Good luck everybody!

Well good luck, most people would charge the guy to take just the monitors, the question you should have asked yourself is where are the towers that went with those monitors?answer the guy that bought them didnt want them, experience is not cheap Good luck Scraping

These were at auction. Towers will be auctioned off within a week along with a gaylord of motherboards, I'm just putting my foot in the door. Besides I might have a a couple days wrapped up in this, breaking down and disposing. Thank you for your input.

Live and learn. I CHARGE $10 each to take monitors and you just found out why. I do break them down but dealing with the CRTs is not worth what you get and I have a recycle facility that takes them free. Many people can take them to Goodwill under their RECYCLE agreement with Dell. BUT most Goodwills will not take as many as you have.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

As mentioned in the orginal post, I don't pay to dispose of them. I have a recycling center a throw of a rock away. They take them for free. I'm young and can work fast/hard. As mentioned I broke down 32 in 3 hours and thats drinking a couple beers .

I understand it may or may not be worth it to some people. But when you're struggling and aren't afraid of a little bit of work, it's always worth it. Just saying.

Good luck with those monitors....as long as you have a place to dispose of the glass then you should make out ok. They are the achilles heal of scrapping along with tv's. I agree when things are tough you do what you have to do. We all started out somewhere and most started scrapping televisions and monitors. You will realize that your money will be better spent buying other types of scrap and grabbing the curb side tvs and monitors when you can. When you do your breakdown keep track of the time it takes break them all down. Then take what you get paid out on the materials and see how much an hr you made. Also don't forget to factor in your gas when you picked them up and dropped them at the recycling center. Then you will have a good idea if it was worth it for you or not. Good luck and please post your results when you get done.

Not a bad deal if you can get rid of the tubes and plastic. You will get alot of copper and low grade boards and some will have an aluminum shield over the back of the tube. I would have done it if I could get rid of the tubes and plastic but I can't at this time. You'll make some good money if you can get a good priece for the low grade boards. Nice grab and good luck.

Curious to see what you make after expenses. Keep us up to date. I'm just starting out myself, haven't researched enough to know if there is anywhere around Toledo, that will dispose of the CRT's for free.
