Scrappers can help

I have hit a good dumpster lately I am up to 2800 lbs of old display racks .I first asked if the dumpster is going as trash or selling the metal
I was told going as trash , But was told still due to liability I (the store worker) can't just say go take it . So the next day I go for it , and to day a worker takes a Cig brake and smiles at me don't worry you can take just be careful . I have more to go and may not even get it all but after to day I see what help I did - 2800 lb less weight but more important way more room as now i have the dumpster organized before i got there it was filled sloppy with no more room now 1/4 full . It's a hard dumpster must be 9 feet tall but so far it's going well except I smashed my windshield but I have 100% (now) free glass coverage luckily. I also feel a little bad cause if I had the time, much of this stuff was short, but time is of the essence get it and go.

Not to be a downer, but if you were told you werent allowed to go in it for liability reasons, then why take the risk. If the police are called by the store owner/mgr you are going to be s.o.l....

Each situation is different but I saw it as he just could not say yes , Yet it was know i was there and they let me be , I am at ONE yes and ONE could not say yes thats all . I have encountered once or twice a firm ( but not here) " NO this is private property " well that is a real NO . But yes I took the risk at first and i don't recommend others to follow my on the fly gut instinct that's just me.
As always my main concern is - is it trash or there metal going to market . I will not mess with metal only containers.

I have found people in charge don't want to say a firm yes as they don't want to be responsible ,I have 30 years is as a painter I have climbed house scaffolding ladders standing on counter tops you name it while painting sanding mud so when the individuals in charge finally see me at work I feel they are more comfortable as i do look graceful . I think if the people who could call the police saw me slipping and things missing my head , They would kick my butt out . Wile not all the time,but if i am going to be in a dumpster a wile I do wear a orange hard hat to convey safety and the color has the look of purpose . I even have orange hunting overalls funny thing i found wearing bright colors people notice you less.
One fact that is expressed often & it seems to come to the forefront ,they tell me we are not responsible

March 5 Another day 1080 lbs and an omen the store put a ladder in the the container the ladder i figure is for scrap but I used it and needed it it's made of AL a 10 footer and is the typ that leans on a wall. Glad i also had hard hat to day a 2X4 pop me on my head .
Tomorrow should be last day to bad these type don't grow on trees

99% all metal out total score 4428 lbs - more room in the dumpster - workers saw me today & I received a how do.I figure I saved them $350 in trash weight and what ever it cost to get another empty container I hope more is on it's way but I am skeptical . The other conclusion - have to be in good shape to really dumpster dive I was climbing
like a chimp Not sure hard core DD is gonna work in old age

Haven't gone dumpster diving in awhile. Went out Sunday and got 9 posts that are 6x6x14', 400 feet of 2 1/2" conduit and 250 feet of D metal. There was a display rack at the bottom that I couldn't get.

I may have buyers on the posts and D metal. That's if they show up tomorrow.

D metal I looked up on INTERNET seems to be a high quality metal - I am in the position of most scrappers they purchase from me short or for the mix

Dunno if it's high quality, but it's sure expensive for what it is, stamped sheet metal.

Haven't heard back from the guy that wanted it.

Sold the posts for $200.

Have someone interested in the conduit at $250. Says he'll be by tomorrow. We'll see.

Not too shabby for about 2 hours work.
