Fiber Optic Cable?

I have a chance to get possibly thousands of feet of fiber optic cable, differient diamaters form up to over an inch to down to less that an quarter of an inch.



Is their any value in this stuff?

If so can it be recycled, or sold?

Theres no copper or any metal in the older fiber optic cable. In some of the newer cable they ran a wire in it to stiffen it up. The cable with no metal is worth squat. The newer stuff is nt worth much at all either. Depends on what metal was used to stiffin it.

As far as I know there is zero scrap value in fiber optic wire. If they are brand new, unopened rolls that have been properly stored, there can be a lot of value there. Fiber optic degrades from UV light, water, and being stored/handled properly. If they are opened or partial rolls I would not bother.

Sorry man, its garbage. unless its brand new no one will pay you squat.

I spent a couple years plowing and pulling fiber-op cable and if there are any marks or dents on it they won't touch it for re-use and you don't just pull out your crimper and scotch locks to splice it.
It is hair thin glass strands that are fused so they can carry light signals any bend in any size cable that is tighter than the radius of the spool it came on can result in a break in the fibers making it useless.
The one or two strands of super high tensile wire gives the cable strength and some rigidity when we handle it because at times we are pulling it through the orange plastic interduct with several strong men or backhoes and plow cats off specially ordered reels as long as 12,000 feet or more that get unrolled and rerolled several times a day some times in order to cross all the existing utilities and other underground obstacles.

Thanks the rolls were partial rolls it did not looked kinked or rerolled to me. I would not know who was interested in the stuff, thanks David
