Had my first and probably last Tungsten ''get''

I'd never had anything like that before, but my great aunt's SIL had saved me copper and brass scrap, kept telling me when I went over next time to stop and get it.



Well, kept forgetting and always was on road home too late to stop, figured, how much could he have. Last time I was there he just brought it over for me. He bought a machine that makes among other things, those copper pieces that wires screw to inside electric boxes. He also uses it to cut brass but don't know for what use.

So he opens his trunk, and there are three buckets inside - one was an ice cream bucket that was full of these drilled out pieces as well as thick copper pieces they are cut from.

Two were 5 gal buckets that had brass rings about 3/4 inch thick. Holy cow I could hardly carry them!!!

Then, he handed me a small box of drill bits and he said they were nickel. Well, when I got to the yard, imagine my surprise when the guy told me they were Tungsten!

4 full size bits and one half of a broken one netted me $20.00 - $10.00 a lb. !!!!!!! I couldn't believe they weighed that much, it certainly didn't feel like it sitting in your hand!

Thats probably something I'll only ever get once in my scrapping lifetime like I once came across a CAT someone threw away and I got $25.00 for.


My yard guy asked me, ''where did YOU get THIS?'' lol, I thought I had done something wrong at first like maybe you have to have a license (?) to buy Tungsten? I have no clue.
