I would run if I had the chance rather than shoot anyone but do not back me into a corner where it is you or me , just saying

I would dare say Scott that the ones carrying a gun legally are the ones who have nothing to hide, no malicious intent, and are trained or knowledgable enough to use it well....... of course there are those idiots out there who are dumb enough to leave a paper trail.......but how many of THOSE can there be right?

Unarmed, in Maine, you can fend off most assailents with a pack of butts or a six pack! Unless you scrapping against a moose, in that case, you have the whole state warden service to contend with.

    Happy Scrapping!!

Axe, pit bull mix, stun gun, accumulated rage.

Truthfully, there is very little gun violence around here - at least directed at humans.

I carry in my truck a hand gun that go on my belt sometimes and a long gun shotgun most of the time. due to I scrap where there are a lot of rattle snakes and other things that may come out of the brush. I never had to point it at anyone while I was scrapping and hope I never do.

    Wheres the option for...

2 dogs who will maul your face off and eat you for a snack if you mess with their owner...?

They look cute and sweet till you mess with the owners, then they go all Hannibal on your face. Guns stay at home. Dogs come with.

Here is a easy but over-looked tip when you go anywhere: always keep your head on a swivel. Whenever I exit my vehicle, I always look around. You are less likely to be messed with/robbed/taken by surprise if you show you are aware of your surroundings. Also project confidence: always look confident when you are doing anything; confidence makes you look less vulnerable. Lastly, always go out with another person. I go with my girlfriend and we have not been messed with in the six months we have done it, by other scrappers, homeowners, or law enforcement (even after they drive by while we were loading).

I dont personally carry a gun or knife, while my girlfriend carries a small knife. I *do* carry a good-sized Maglite which could easily serve as a defensive tool (swing it or throw it). I think its a better option than a weapon, because its too easy for someone to approach you offensively, you hurt them, and then have to go to court to argue assault/self-defense. The penalties go without saying.

I rely on the latter advice before anything else.

If you are still alive to go to court!

I have a couple of cutting tools in my truck but no piece of scrap is worth fighting for. I have a family to go home to.

I don't think we are talking about fighting over scrap but wondering what people have or do if they are attacked and need to defend themselves. Sometimes running is not necessarily the safest or quickest option.

I work mostly around New Orleans so I carry a gun, have had my concealed carry license for quite some time now (my full time job actually deals with firearms). I'd rather have it and never need it then need it and not have it.

My beloved deceased Chow Chow Liza saved the day in south Florida years ago.

Some guy I had asked for directions had decided to lean into the front compartment of the vehicle , way in - like across the steering wheel- I think his next move was to pull me out and take off with the car or maybe he was hoping I had a purse he could grab or something. I kept my cool because I knew he wasn't getting anything from us.

Liza, who looked like a big black bear, woke up from her nap and started quietly growling and the guy just about soiled himself when he saw her in the back seat. He had the nerve to ask me "does that dog bite?" I just started laughing like a hysterical crazy person who feeds scumbags to her dog for lunch on a daily basis. He ever so slowly pulled his arms out of the car and took off running.

I carry a little 25 it fits in the coin pocket of my pants. Mostly have it for racoons that make nest in piles of field scrap. Only confrontation I had to pull it on was doing a cable shutoff in Baltimore. If someone wants to be a jerk and escalate the situation u can have the scrap. I have scrapped around too many meth heads to take the chance they won't just freak out for no reason

We had safety training and a transit officer showed us how to turn a handful of keys into a nasty weapon and suggested keep your keys out walking in dark parking lots and try not to get abducted meaning fight like hell if you get jumped. I try and stay out of those situations so not much scraping after dark. Couple years ago we had a gang problem and I was doing graffiti removal at a vacant building with a homeless crack shack next door so brought a baseball bat and just in case the double barrel was in the truck.

Gas stations at 2 in the morning seem to a good place to get into scuffles. Bout got jumped by a crack head with a blade that is until I cracked him in the head with Fiberglas ax handle. Got him right in the temple, dropped him cold.
