You win THIS time, Mr. Smash-and-Grab... ;)

I was really stoked when I saw those three computer towers sitting by the trashcans in that alley this morning.

They looked older than usual, so I kinda thought that there'd be some decent goodies in them.

Sadly, some smash & grab artist had already gotten there & removed the side panels from all three, and had cut the wires coming from the power supplies, and had pulled out all of the wires including the ribbon cable. He even took the side panels with him, leaving me stuck scavenging only the 3 power supplies sans wire, 3 mobos, 2 AMD Athlon 64 CPUs, one Intel 486 CPU, 4 sticks of ram, 3 Al brick CPU heat sinks, all the fans & assorted drives, and the rest of the cases.

Maybe I'll get there sooner next time before someone makes off with all the good stuff.....

can't always get them all . But now he will be back also , you better figure a better time, if you can consistently win for a few months he will forget the spot. also when you get there first leave no trace ,that helps eliminate the game . See if you saw no left overs you 'd a figured no stuff out

One of the ways I kept the flow of tv's going - was and is - to take all , even though the town mandated people take TVs to a center, some misinformed people leave out , I take the whole thing so no foul for home owner and the town never had to put a yellow sticker on TV . it's been a lot of work though I never leave a TV behind. Smash and grab scrappers are my foe's since they can cause town to step up the rules.

Dude, it sounds like you came out with the best parts. If that idiot had any sense the whole thing would have been gone. I detest smash and grab punks, they give true scrapers a bad name. On the other hand, their lack of knowledge usually means cash for me.

I am always surprised how the wire only scrappers leave behind some of the true value . I figure they probably don't have the room to deal with the bulk of all that wires feed from.

More surprising, I still feel the wire only's are ghost's , cause I still have never seen them, there very mysterious. Have any scrappers ever seen one in action
regardless they do fit in to the pecking order . better something then nothing.

While seeing what's left from a smash and grab encounter is never welcoming, you made out quite good if you ask me.

Sounds like they did you a favor. They removed the side panels and got the wire out of your way and left the good stuff. If you could find who set them out maybe they have more to get rid of.

Where I am located scrappers do not pick up computers, the yards here will not buy anything with a circuit board, I have given my information to as many scrappers as I run across saying that I will buy their computers from them but no calls as of yet.

I found a CRT monitor a couple weeks ago with a missing wire. I tossed it into my truck and later scrapped out the yoke copper, deguassing coil, boards out of it. No sure what the first guy was thinking. Must have a few around me because I have found tv shells and carcasses stripped bare too.
