I believe most coax cable is copper plated steel and a lot of yards don't want it. The last batch I had, I just threw in the trunk of a Hyundai that I was scrapping, and the shredder liked it just fine.

A lot of your cb and ham radio coax is copper over copper along with big satellite coax and a few others. Check it with a magnet if your not sure.
I used to sell some high powered CB base station coax that had double layer copper shield with a large center copper strand. Used to run a buck a ft. back then.

You're correct. I had assumed he was referring to the usual RG59 or RG6 coax cable that is so common.

It only takes be about 30 seconds to take one apart, but I was doing it one handed so it took a little longer.

That is a big waste of time 4LB sledge + Wall Wart (seem facing up) + cement floor + force exerted by a human using the 4LB sledge hammer hitting the seem (only once!) = low grade board with a huge transformer attached to it, and the plastic shell. Takes less than 5-10 seconds to do hopefully less than 5

You can put them in a vice and squeeze them and they'll pop open at the seam, safer than having plastic bits flying at your face after smacking with a 4 lb sledge. Just takes a few seconds longer.

I've been braking the wall warts open with a hammer but I'll try the vice thing, sounds a lot easyer than the hammer. Thanks Mechanic.

I use the hammer method also on the 'wall warts'. lol.

They pop on the first smack usually, but I just use a normal ol'hammer. Trick is smacking it right on the seam.

The vise looks like fun though, think I might have to try that one next time I get more 'warts'.
