What kind of wire is this?!

I tore apart my first oven last week and the wire inside wasn't copper. It's shiny and silver colored. I thought it was aluminum but I read somewhere that it's something else.

You guys ever find anything like this? It's coated silver colored wire. What type of wire do you normally find in ovens?

My yard pays .12 for aluminum wire so I'm hoping its something better, thanks!

Nope. Just checked. It's not one solid wire and its silver colored all around. Any other ideas?

Copper wire has some weight to it, unlike alum wire witch weighs pretty much nothing. You can also leave it seperate so when you go to the yard and ask them what they will take it as

Where in the stove did you find this wire? Did it come from the thermostat? Most of the thermostat wire I've found is tin plated copper. What do you mean when you say it's silver colored all around? You need to cut the wire and look at the end or take a file and scrape off some of the finish. If it's silver color all the way through then it might be Ni-crome. Dose a magnet stick to it? If it dose then it's steel.

Its silver colored the whole way through. And I got it running through the back and underneath the burners. Whats Ni-chrome and the price for it? No, no magnet.

It's adamantium. It's the strongest wire known to man. It even rivals that of titanium. I knew this dude once who had mutton chops right. Well back in the day, he was recruited for this top secret weapons experiment. They infused his entire body with it and then gave him claws that shot out of his hands. It was simply amazing. However, he's retired now. So now they just put that crap in ovens.

I have found this wire before & thought it was Stainless steel wire because it was a Silver colour right thru.

After looking closer at it, I see Copper.
So real close look tells me its Copper wire with a Tin coating. As I was cutting thru the wire, it was smearing the softer tin across the copper wires cut face.
Thats why it looked Silver all the way thru.

I have found this happens a lot when I do this. For instance I cut thru the Silver coloured backing plate on a flat transistor & it looked Silver all the way thru.
But when I scraped it across a knife sharpening stone, the Copper colour came back out.

Yeah yeah, yah just smearing the Tin coating over the face of the Copper wire.

I'm really pretty sure it's not copper. However, I took a load in today and the scrap guy just threw it on the scale with my copper so i got copper price for it!
