I use to own a yard care company and also spent 25 months total in Iraq, this is what I have found works for me.
    1. When it gets above 90 waters not enough when I'm working but I don't like sugar so I buy the powdered Gatorade and make it 1/3 strength.
    2. When I'm in the heat I don't want to eat but I make myself eat a protein bar and an apple or Orange a few times a day and eat a good healthy breakfast and late dinner.
    3. The shirts fishing guides/ backpackers wear are thin and dry quick. The long selves keep the sun off your skin and the wet shirts keep you cool. The sun on your skin raises your body temp. You never see cowboys in tanktops.
    4. Wear a hat.
    5. Dont get sunburned
    6. Use your head, it takes the body awhile to adjust to heat. Know your body and listen to it. Sometimes the body says nope reguarless of what you do.
    7. DON'T GET SUNBURNED!!!! It makes you dehydrate and raises your body temperature.
    8. Did I mention sunburns?

Good advice, beardo, but the reason you never saw cowboys in (short sleeves) was actually a reflection of the times - Victorian. Same reason tablecloths were invented then - to hide the table "legs".
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Most Hispanics wear long sleeves for a good part of the day too.
