    it"s getting hotter

so it"s time to shift gears and work more appropriately.

for me it means starting earlier carrying more water/gatorade cutoff t shirts lighter ****ie pants and low cut st workboots

it means grabbing metals with gloves cuz burns hurt like a ***** asnd on long loads unloads having a cool towel around my neck to cool down

it means eating lighter lunches more fruit and more salads less red meat and no mayo on anything ever

To my scrapper friends if your not changing your work habits now is a great time to start
heat exhaustion leads to damage heat stroke leads to paralasys

a p.s.a from liberty tow any other advice is always welcome

work cool work smart this summer

I've been trying to move my wake-up time from 6 to 4. Almost there Was 100 in my warehouse this afternoon. Fans and water help, but productivity still suffers.

People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

I plug away all day but I think I'm a bit younger than some of u. Just upped the water intake and the stream right next to my work sight gets used but don't push it overboard. Better to take an afternoon off than get heat stroke and lose lots more than an afternoon.

That's a very valid point, Trot about slowing down with age. Talking about what one did 20 or 30 years ago is best done in the shade with a glass of water.

I was going to start a similar reminder thread!

Last Monday i walked out of the house at 8:30 am and started dripping sweat into my cup of coffee I was carrying and it didn't feel hot enough to sweat! not at 8;30 in the morning!

needless to say, you can gauge the kind of day its going to be when its like that and even though i made sure i drank plenty of liquids the heat still zapped all my energy and made my muscles feel like limp noodles and wanting to pass out when i was moving scrap.

Be careful, work smart and drink plenty of liquids. but even the most careful planning can sometimes not be enough and the heat will get you even if you dont feel like it is. dont try to be a hero out there.

I have had to turn on two fans in the shop and I drink lots of Gatoraid. Enough to not buy bottles but buy the bulk powders from WalMart.

As far as clothing goes, I keep a stack of sweat-wicking t-shirts in my van. It gets really humid here, and you can sweat just standing still. One of the tractor supply stores around me (Rural King) has two packs of them on sale in the florescent yellow or orange for $8 from time to time. I usually buy a couple packs every time they go on sale.

Something else to look for is those towels/ bandanas / neck-scarf things (sorry for the dumb description) that you soak with water and they stay cool for about an hour. I got one at Walmart last year for a couple of dollars and it was a life-saver on some crazy hot days.

If you're a type that doesn't care for the gatorade (or don't want all the sugar), you can take your jug of water and put a bit of salt and lemon juice in it to replace your electrolytes. Google it, there's plenty of info online.

I end up having to take potassium pills that you buy at any drugstore. And I also take a few drinks of pickle juice at night. I don't know what it replaces but it helps my body not feel awful when I wake up.

One of my hobbies is long-distance running and cycling. A popular snack with the cyclists is pickles/pickle juice. Helps with leg cramping, I'm told, and good for when you're sweating like crazy. Heck, I just like pickles.

With me being on dialysis I have to watch my liquid intake and my salt intake, really makes it rough on hot summer days. That's why I'll work a couple of hours and go in and relax in the air conditioning then go back out for another short round. I have to try and limit my intake to 24 oz a day.

Hot in Sacramento today. For those that may think it's always fair weather in California, think again! 112 in the warehouse right now. Will have to wait until the sun goes down to open up the door and turn the fans on. A west facing door is only good in the winter.
