Found a Gold mine in a Storage unit.

I don't post much kind of just sit back and read( you can never learn toooo much) and this forum is a great place to get educated. Ok Now for the Score of a life time.

I'm a retired welder after being in business for my self for 25 years as a welder I retired at age 43 last year and picked up scraping as a part time hobby for me and a Job for my son. Were in the middle of opening up a E-Recycling center In western Pa(so much for retirement) and almost there just waiting on the DEP(GO FIGURE). Well we have been doing some stock advertising on Craig's list and got a call last week about a storage unit full of old cell phones that needed to be removed. So Thursday the son and I took the hour and 15 minuet drive up north to check it out (You just never know). The owner said they are from a guy who owned several stores and went belly up and just left them. I'm figuring maybe a few boxes ok enough to pay for fuel and time. Well when he opened up the unit it was stocked full a completed 10x20 unit top to bottom full of banana boxes full of old phones every thing from old flips to I phones. Imagine my surprise and my son's eyes lit up like a light house. Asked what he need for the unit and was told "Nothing just make them gone !" and how soon? .. Well picked them up yesterday with the truck and trailer was kind of curious as to the weight. Got home and weighed each box as they came off the trailer, Total load grossed out at 2856 lbs of cell phones and boxes. Not too bad of a deal I didn't think.

Wow, that's A LOT of phones! That's enough to look into getting the lot refined yourself. Congratulations.

I'm assuming here....guessing batteries are still with it, so maybe 2,000 lbs worth of phones? By my math that's just shy of 12 grand. I'd throw a gift card or two from Texas Roadhouse or something towards the guy.

    Great score!

I would assume many of them are worth way more than scrap value considering you said there were iphones as well. 12k is most definitely the least you will make!

Did a little sorting today and seems a lot of the Higher end phones are organ donors ,Screens and Batteries , still got a few boxes to go through had to stop "the walleye were calling!!!"...Gona try to finish up tomorrow and see.. been removing batteries as we go I got a connection with a local company that recycles batteries so im golden on that part get premium price for them no middle man..Not in to the EBay thing I know I might miss out on a few bucks but time is money and it takes time to list, package and ship,. Then there's a chance of some idiot trying to dispute a transaction that just makes it not worth my while. I found out a long time ago the key to a successful business is turning revenue with the least amount of energy in the shortest time possible with as few people involved as necessary. EBay breaks all those rules..
