I advertise that I do pick ups for free and I usually get items for free all the time on CL why do you think he is lying????

and who cares he wants to make money, maybe you should tell him to be honest instead, you might get a better response from him

I posted one about will pick up free computers, monitors laptops and such tv's and I posted that i would pick them up or meet somewhere safe, this woman graciously sent me an e mail and I picked up the lap top at sears parking lot, safe for her safe for me. my problem is and im working on reading this forum site, that in my state/area no one buys E-waste, graded boards and such. theres always E bay or shipping bulk when I get a decent amount. but as stated above, Just be HONEST.

I see plenty of ads like that on CL. Most have all kinds of lame BS reasons why they want them, but I think 90% of them are in it for the money (to scrap or fix and sell). My ad just states that I buy computers and parts for x amount, never state in the ad what I do with them. If they ask, I tell them the truth (mostly scrapping and a some re-sale). One seller a few weeks ago commented that he liked my ad as it was straight to the point, and no BS.

I think it's just one of those situations where you need to sit back and say "Karma will get them".

I see stuff like that here as well. And it's always so obvious. I don't even flag them. Why? Because it's getting recycled. I'm not greedy enough to hold a personal vendetta against them. I just chuckle to myself, knowing that that fella/gal has to sleep at night.

I agree. Just say what you're really going to do with the scrap and people will usually repond well to it. Computer Recycling

I advertise mine as Repurposed, Reused or Recycled when I advertise for them.

If they are good enough to reuse, I go through them and offer them for nothing to people that need them. I have given a few of them to day cares, people with disabilities, and other places where they will get used. I do get a little upset when people advertise like that and I give them a computer someone actually could have needed or really used and all they are doing is scrapping them. I do put several hours of my time and resources into them getting the ready this means complete cleanings, factory resets, putting suitable software in them for end user, etc.

I do end up recycling alot of them as they simply cant hack it with massively outdated hardware. But in the process I also do take parts out of scrap towers and bring them to use repairing towers that are worth the time to try to repair.

I personally make a point of just linking to and telling people what those adds are. Toss them under proverbial bus. I feel it is more effective to do this than flag them so they get put right back up. Bad press tends to last longer and spread faster than good. I figure Karma will get to them sooner or later.

I can see where that scam works since 48% of us are still givers who will willingly give to the 51% takers thinking they are good honest hard working folks. We were raised in a country of hard working people who cared for their fellow man. We are 48% because we are either giving up and joining the takers or, dieing off. Because our ranks are thinning, there soon will be a tipping point. When that point comes the hard working givers will know how to survive, the takers won,t and, there will be nothing left for us to give. They will not survive, they never learned how to. just my .02
