My philosophy, drive slow and look fast. I cover a lot of grounds that way.
Or reverse it an really piss'm off!
Drive fast and look slow!
Better yet strike that, much better options then the above.

I can still see all of your replies.
Update:
I never heard back from the police chief so I stopped up at the station this afternoon before heading out again. Told an officer what has been going on and he said I need to call the police each time it happens.
I gave him their plate number and he said he would look it up and see if he could find a phone number for them and give them a call. I told him i was worried they would think it was from me but he said he would word it like ''Hi, we've been getting some calls about your driving fast through the neighborhoods'' type thing.
Well wouldn't you just know it, we ran into them in a section where we had never seen them before and they didn't even glance our way!!!! I told hubby, maybe they had actually gotten a phone call??!!
Hopefully this is the end of this bruhaha.
haha, i love happy endings! ; )
Keep your guard up NA, don't let it down. They'll eventually recover from the initial shock of getting a call from the police, and possibly decide paybacks are hell. I hope they'll let it go, but we both know how people can be, so watch for snares(from them), and happy scrappin (from me) : )
I chased some guy in a new Honda t 10km last week he had the nerve to pull up beside my truck and call me a f"in idot, and a couple other not so nice words. I dont know where these people think its a safe or smart thing to do. Swearing and telling a stranger off for no reason. I think when the big loud diesel was an inch off his bumper doing 140 he sh!t his pants a little. I had my flashers on pulled over loading up. It seems to happen to me once a week around hear...somewhere along the line these yuppies forgot that if you insult a stranger you might just get your bell rung. Over worked and stressed out I guess is the reason. No respect
Hope it works out for you. If it doesn't, please consider the suggestions on here to get them on tape. In my experience, people that crazy will just as likely be pointing the finger of blame at you one of these days - it helps you have something against them in your hands. Best of luck, newattitude.

If someone deliberately drives at you, regardless if you are on the street, in a car, in your house, it's considered under almost any state law to be an assault with a deadly weapon. This is why cops get away with shooting someone who is in their car, but pointing it directly at the police officer.
They believe you are in their territory, regardless if you are just working places anyone is legally allowed to, so they are acting in a territorial way. This means, regardless of how outside the norm their behavior is, they believe they have a right to act in this way, and they are not going to stop. You are not going to be able to reason with them, they have already proven that they are not reasonable people. You are going to continue to be harassed, and don't really have any options when it comes to confronting them.
And god do I hate these situations, but you have to set aside your pride in this case. As much as I hate to not confront people like this, I also know that to confront them is only going to escalate things in a way that would not be beneficial to any of the parties involved. It was the same thing when I used to bounce, you can't fight everyone, you just have to do enough to remove the problem, not fix it.
If I were in your situation I would try this first. Spend some money and get magnetic signs to put on your doors that state your company, and what exactly you are doing. Doing so will save your butt legally. If anything were to happen right now someone could always claim they didn't realize you were picking up scrap, but thought instead you were stealing and they were attempting to chase you off. But clearly displayed signs that state exactly what you are doing negate any excuse for their behavior, assuming they can read. And if they have a license, they have to be able to read at least signs. I would also include this on the sign "we are recording video as we collect" this has the added extra benefit of keeping a good record of everything that happens as you are working.
Next I would purchase a cheap video security system, I believe harbor freight has them, you can buy them with small cameras, and attach the cameras to the windows of your car so you are recording at four directions all at the same time. Then buy yourself a cheap recorder, and a converter which you can also pick up at harbor freight. All this equipment can be of the home variety if you use a converter, and then just adapt it for your vehicle needs.
Finally, with your magnetic signs and your video recording in place, run your route, drive nice and slow so they can read your signs and see your cameras. If they continue to harass you, they are on meth or crack. They should leave you alone but if not, you now have video proof you can hand into the police.
I know this sounds strange, but this solution will not set you back much, and is guaranteed to work. Police love video, they will appreciate how serious you are and not just write you off as dumpster divers.

At the heart of science is an essential balance between two seemingly contradictory attitudes--an openness to new ideas, no matter how bizarre or counterintuitive they may be, and the most ruthless skeptical scrutiny of all ideas, old and new. This is how deep truths are winnowed from deep nonsense. -- Carl Sagan
I've had both kinds of meetings, one, where a kid stops next to my truck and says "yo, I scrap these neighborhoods" I said fine, have a nice day and continued my business. Yesterday, a fellow scrapper stopped next to me to see if I need help loading a fridge. I asked him where he planned on scrapping and then I agreed to take the other neighborhood. Nice fellow!
