36 - 27" TV's

I picked up 36 TV's last week. 16 Panasonic, and 22 Toshiba. The Panasonics had a stupid aluminum degaussing wire, but the yokes slipped right off. The Toshibas had a nice copper wire, those creaking yokes were taped and glued and no matter what I did i couldnt get the can't yoke off. I tried and tried and after cracking a tube for the second time I decided it was worth it. Anyone know how to get those off for future reference? I would have held them until I found an answer but I needed to clear up some space.

I guess I would do the same but I never have had the yolk just stuck on so bad that sucks but copper is copper I tell myself cause I would give up on TV's but its an extra $100 a week my back does not like but my wallet and stomach sure does lol

We take the yolks apart right on the tube if it is stuck.

I tried that. I did get most the copper off a couple of them but I found it extremely difficult. Got an way to do this?

Absolutely, and nowhere in that post did it mention how to remove Glued/Taped yokes. These had white packing tape covered by the rubbery adhesive on the underside of the yoke. No clamps whatsoever. And they don't budge.

I know the kind your referring to. An yea those suckers are bloody cemented on or something, like others only way I've found to remove them is by breaking that tiny part of the tube. Thankfully I don't get those kind much anymore. Always a pain in the ass. All the others just a quick twist an they usually just pop right on off.

Nice job on the score of 36. When my wife's hotel swapped out their old tube tvs for flat screens I got the fun of breaking down over 50 of the buggers. I think at the end of the day I ended up with 85 or so out of the 110 they had.

If I get more I will try that. Kinda sucked the every one of the 36 were only half good. Not a one had both removable yoke and copper degaussing wire. Oh well. I was really slow as far as other scrap goes so it made me some money and kept me busy for a couple nights.

Nice, a hotel here gave away 91 about a month ago. I was one of their first responses but i only have a short wide pickup and they wanted all taken at once or none at all. Plus i only have a garage to work out of!!! I would have had those suckers lining my back fence!

You guys actually toss all those broken tubes in the garbage? I don't hardly care for TVs anymore. Even had some old CRT monitors the other day, 20 miles from home, 2 miles from Goodwill, made a U-turn and took em by there whole

Speaking for myself, I don't break the tubes fully nor toss'm in the trash. When I was getting those kind that were plastered/cemented/whatever that crap is that sticks them to it...I would just break the part with the yoke attached. Nowadays I just ignore that **** yoke and grab the board an wires, an drop the sucker off at my recycle center. When I did have to break that one part, I would smash it up as BC said in a blanket or on a piece of cardboard, pluck out my copper and put the glass back in the tube, an again drop it off at my recycle center.

I always felt bad doing it. I'd never smash an entire tube. I'd rather lose the money then smash an entire tube.

One could call me a jerk for how I handled it I guess, but eh..I've been called worse.

Breaking the tubes it just too much of a risk for me. I always imagine myself tripping while carrying it to the truck and landing chest first on the jagged glass. Don't want to win a Darwin just to get a yoke off. I also seem to always get an itch in my ear or eye every time i pick up a box knife, almost like my brain is daring me to use the blade to scratch it!! I think my subconscious wants me severely injured!!
