In my case...tape isn't the issues. It's some kind of epoxy or whatever you call it. I'll take a pic later of some of the stuff as I think I have a few pieces still laying about somewhere.

Either way...I don't have issues but with the one type, an as said before..I just ignore them now.

I found this is the best method too. It is tedious and a PITA but not all are like that. Hey what is the deal with the aluminum

I've broke down alot of tv's in my day and never had a problem getting the yoke off. Did you remove the two clamps on the yoke first? Take the two clamps off (ss) and give the yoke a good hard twist and it should come right off.

I don't strip tv's or monitors any more. Too much waste to contend with. I do take them with a pick up sometimes but charge 15 to 20 bucks to take them Problem is I can't even give them away around here.

He's not weak, or doing it wrong. I know the type he's talking about. It's glued directly too the neck of the tube. It's not the kind that has the 1 or 2 SS clamps. I've played with an un-countable amount of CRT's, and i've ran into about 100 or so of those. I messed with the first 10, trying to get them off. But then i realized something.....

The cone is aluminum. Chit you not. I know some folk on here are going to go all "HURRRDURRR IT CANT BE BECAUSE THATS NOT HOW A TV WORKS HURRRDURRR" or something. lol. But the wire on the glued tubes is aluminum. Once i figured that out i said to hell with it and left them on.

Thank you Hoss!! I know I'm relatively new to all this but I'm no idiot. There are no clamps, the tube has tape bunched up around the back and then the epoxy seeps into the folds of the tape making it near impossible. Funny thing is I picked up 6 more today. I'm going to take pics and try different methods and also find out if they are indeed aluminum. Wouldn't that blow!!!

Word of advice, it's not worth it. Write down the brand/model of each glued cone you find. That way you'll know not too pick up those TV's.

Here is what it looks like after everything is removed. There are no clamps. In between the tape and the yoke it is full of the usual glue/epoxy/adhesive that most yokes have. I am assuming that the combination of tape and glue is what makes it stick so well. Also Toshiba had to know it wasn't coming off otherwise they would have clamped it right? I'm thinking it was designed to not be removed. Ever. Pic sucks, i have horrible lighting in the Scrap Room

I know it's not, but I'm stubborn as hell. Plus they were free and on the way home, and it's hard for me to pass up the free copper degaussing wire. Even if the yokes don't come off I'll still make a couple bucks per TV.

Cut that wire on the yoke. If it's silver it's aluminum. Willing to bet ya that that cone is.

Watch it's copper and i end up lookin like an ass. lmao.

You're not an ass, although this one is copper. I tried to take another pic but with the lighting and this particular color of red it's hard to see the copper color. Spot on with backing my position on the yoke though!!! Even though I am weak, can't use the search function, and forget to take clamps off. I'll be a learnin' one day! Promise!

in your pic there is a steel clamp (dark brownish/ black) it's a flattened C shape, right below the white part on the left hand side. just use a flat screw driver to pry it off then use it to pry the two half's of the yoke apart.

2. or if the plastic is brittle use a 12 oz ball peen hammer and smash the plastic until the copper falls off. hit downward from the top which will disperse the force into the glass and not break it.
