Nice load man. Those sides look kinda iffy in a place or two. Think I'd run a 2x8 or a 2x10 along the top, bolted in at least about a half a dozen places

Thats why I put straps on em.. they are break down sides.. the center.. is a slip in... and the rest is in a stud slot.. .but strapped in place well..

So after I dumped the load off onto the pile.. I pull the truck to the side.. take the sides off lay it up against the head board... and then I strap em down on the bed.. no wind.. resistant.

Makes life a lot easier. Our dump has a 16' grain bed on it. 6 minutes from weigh-in to weigh-out and 5400 lbs lighter. Got tired of them beating the snot out of our other trucks with the mag or the claw at the yard. Wish I had bought one a long time ago.

Old grain trucks make great scrapper trucks and can usually be had fairly cheap. I agree with everyone else on those sides panels, strapped or not...

Think people are not lookin at it closely... where the straps are. There is a slip out panel.. looks unsafe.. but trully isn't... The straps.. keeps the side up and in place.. done 20 plus trips like that.. and the max load on this truck is 28000 most I had in it, was 24850

Those are named tie "down" straps, because they tie things "down", Not "up". What you're missing is the rigidity necessary to hold them "up", and one day you'll be going around a corner, or get caught in a pinch, and that load will shift, sideways. How? Why? Because there's insufficient support there to hold them "up", and you'll have cases all over the highway/freeway/side-of-the-road or maybe on somebodies head. A simple beam along the top holding them all together, lending some support coming from each corner, might be sufficient to avert this, but it's your load, you're the one responsible for it, you be the judge ; )

I do have straps going from one side of the truck to the other side holding it together... and on the back end.. I've two sets of straps holding the back gate in place.. so all in all.. a total of 7 straps in place.. five over the top of the load.. and two on the back end.. Its in good shape.. if Something would to go wrong.. I will post on here.. saying Bear You told Me so.. LOL..

Hey PCS, what they used to do on the old farm trucks, ones that carried watermelons and such. and had removable panels like that, each had an iron bar going across to the other side, about every 4 feet or so. The bars just dropped into a channel about a foot, which held the sides rigid. I'm not trying to knock you, that's an impressive load, and 24K is a lot of weight. If one of those sides ever blows out in a hard turn it's gonna cause a headache. Those straps won't hold it up, they'll flop over with it. Another thought on lending it some more reinforcement would be a couple cables, anchored to the bed on one side, and to the top of the other side, criss crossing each other, with quick connects, like shackles or something. You could then easily unfasten the top on each side, and dump the load without losing your cables, which would still be fastened at the bottom. Cables are easy to work with too, if you ever want to know how to weave an eye in one let me know, it's really very simple ; )

pcscrapper: Hope you don't take anyone advising you as talking down to you. We all haul.. in various ways.. Most scrappers biggest pet peeve is when we see someone potentially hauling unsafely. I haul cars on my trailer and I saw a dude recently put a car on his trailer and the only thing holding it to the trailer-- was (1) 2-ton come-along. I didn't think he was done, but I could see him going down the road and that was all that stood between him, and that car flying off and killing a whole family. If I could have run as fast as he was driving I most certainly would have said "Dude, I'll loan you my straps- tie that thing down right!" Bear is a smart dude.. he's just trying to save you a potential headache and more by sticking an ounce of prevention in there.. We all want each other to be safe out there.. No one wants to come to the SMF and see a post from anyone entitled "Back from Jail.. My load broke loose and I was arrested.. my rig impounded.. I've got a long road ahead of court and lawsuits"

not taking it as a looking down... If there is straps going from one side of the truck to the other side anchored in metal railing. how will the sides come loose.? Plus the vertical boards also goes into a slot along the rail bar.. so basically the boards goes into a tube.. and has a bolt to keep them from coming out.. and the straps slips over the flat iron rail. thats runs along the side of the truck. and I throw My straps from one side of the truck to the other side of the truck. and crank it down. I Like getting feedbacks.. makes Me think about how can I make it easier..

So far .. this is a good feed back..

and I use to drive OTR. so I'm very careful and thinking about other people around Me.

one thing people has not said one thing.. .. and I've already done it.. after the picture.. TARP ... keeps chut from blowing out.

Ahhh hhhaaaa.... No one caughty that.. .. LOL Thanks for the feedback.
