I do like the jig for doing large quanities. I am wondering if it would be better to leave them whole and sell at the slot processor price. Also I reccomend setting up a vaccum system to remove the fiberglass dust for long term heath concerns. Mike.

Nice set up but you may want to wear a dust mask if not one with a filter on it and some goggles. The dust when you cut those gets everywhere. Your dealing with some nasty stuff flying around coming off that board. I use a 4x4 block of wood. Cut a slice in it about 1/4 down across the grain. Put the card in and snap the finger right off.

I like your solution, seems like it works very well.

I have a couple suggestions however, just to keep you safe. The dust that is created when you saw PC boards is full of all types of chemicals that are extremely hazardous to your health. For example the particles can get into your lungs and cause cancer, this is just one of the many ways being exposed to this type of material can shorten your life. Also, once into particulate form, small particles can and will make it through your skin. Any smoke that evolves from the process is also filled with toxins.

Here is a good primer that will educate you on the toxins found in PC boards:

    http://www.genderchangers.org/docs/2...ncomputers.pdf

There are things you can do to minimize your exposure.

Wear full safety goggles that create a seal around your eye so you don't absorb any of the particles or smoke into your eyes

Wear a pollen mask to prevent inhalation of particles and smoke into your lungs, this will not keep everything out but at least the majority.

Wear gloves and long sleeves so your skin does not come into contact with particles

Build a stand and use a shop vac house to vacuum away the particles as you cut your boards.

I used to break down a lot of my own material, I discovered through trial and error that for me the easiest way to collect fingerboards was to simply take a 2x4 or 2x6 and cut across the grain at the depth I wanted. Then I connected that to a seat so I could sit on the seat and the board would be sticking out in front of me with the slot at a comfortable distance from my body. I could then put a bucket full of cards on one side, and two empty buckets on the other side and have my own dis-assembly line. You simple take the slot card and feed it into the cut you made in the 2x4, then lead forward. The fingerboard part snaps right off without all the dust, particles or any smoke. It's super fast, super simple and easy to stow away.

Just a fyi, I do have a vacume in place... its under the machine... that pulls it down ward.. Didn't turn it on because of it being loud..

as far as mask.. Well I should but with the vacum in place no need for it, does a superb job of keeping it clean on top.

I read here about a 4 x 4 Ummm, I would be afriad to snap it with my hand.. if it comes out by mistake.. can you imagine the slice you gonna git.. and they manual labor..

and one more thing.. I forgot to include in my note.. Glasses.

I'm an ole timer.. been around.. don't look old.. but I'm just about 50.. so I do think alot about safety.. and I appreciate the input..

    4 x 4.. ummm, I'll pass.. LOL
