Be nice to your local Direct TV guy...it does pay off.

So was walking up the road to a business near me, to show them the results of me destroying a hard drive for them, and I came across a fella that lives up the road from me that works for direct tv. Always see his van, but never the guy! So today I did! We got to talking told him what i do an whatnot. He was pretty interested an asked if I had any use for anything other then the receivers an such. I told him of course! So he starts rooting through the van an pulling things out an asking if these are things that interest me. Of course I said yes, as they were dish parts, etc. Which thanks to Mech's recent post I know have nice high grade boards.

So yea..long story short...He's gonna root through the van and his house and be bringing me by a bunch of stuff. An yes it'll be reoccurring. Says he normally just tosses it in a dumpster, but would rather see it recycled properly.

He wouldn't even let me make an offer with money, so I told him I'd buy'm his beverage of choice. LOL. Total cost..8.00..he drinks cheap beer..lol. Paid when he brings the stuff by.

I'll be seeing wire, the arms from dishes, some metal, and other assorted Sat equip. Just no receivers.

I chalk it up as a win. Networking is a good thing.

Sirscrapalot - Had a good day, is now off to enjoy a beverage from the cooler.

My local direct tv guy throws all of his stuff away as well, luckily for me, his dumpster of choice is right around the corner. Happens every Friday night.

Be nice to your local Direct TV guy...it does pay off.

I have a couple dtv guys I pick up from as well as there main office. I cut the tops off of 55 gallon plastic barrels and took them to there houses. gives them a place to dump it and makes pickup very easy.

Those guys must throw away lots of cables too. My mom switched from cable to satellite and the guy left a whole kit full of connection cables, rca connections, network cables etc. After about a week her wondering if he'd come back, she asked me to take them. I figured every time he hooked up a new customer, that bag came with the box, he used the one he needed and had to do something with the rest. Probably got tired of em piling up in his truck and having to find somewhere to throw them away, and started leaving the whole bag on the spot ; )
The bag weighed about 2 pounds probly, I figured he threw away about 500 a year(that's less than 2 hookups per day), still, a lot of cables being disposed of there

Some of the directv coax has solid Cu in the center. I find that the magnets from computer hard drives are a great way to test the tip of the center conductor of coax that stick out of the connector. Also the coax ends themselves are brass.

Haha! That's so true Haiku. When we had Direct tv first installed, dude did the same, left a bunch of stuff. Was like Christmas come early! Free cooler filler money! Same happened when we switched from Direct to local cable. Guy came, left a bunch of stuff. Another free cooler filler!

Miked - Ha! Indeed my friend. The cooler has earned it's keep many times over. It's why I keep it happy and full. It does it's job.

Sirscrapalot - Will likely shed a tear when the cooler needs replaced.

Aww that is good beer. Put it in the freezer and pop the top and chug as the ice flows out. And don't ruin it with salt and lime like the wife does.

The boards that he was talking about came from Hughesnet satellite internet receivers NOT Direct TV. There's miles of difference in the two.

Etack, appreciate that but..Trhis is his reply when I asked what they came out of. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

Again I thank you for pointing out. Not being snarky, so please don't take it that way my good sir.

Below you will find his reply to my question and the thread in general. I was referring to the LNBs as the high grades.

Probably both, there was a couple of triples in that mix.
They will be different sizes and shapes but these were Direct Tv LNB's.
My trash co. I work with saves them for me and I buy them as low grade.
