    Angry Retarded cl ads

Called about a old pickup off a cl like service earlier today:
He wanted full scrap price for it. I offered scrap minus 75$. No thats too low, and it's a rare pickup too. But in your add you beat it up terrible like, and also state it's mechanically sound but doesn't run or drive ?! You must not know jack about x brand of pickups. So why hasn't it sold when it's been on here for over six months ?

The point ? If you want full scrap price for it load it up and haul it in yourself and quit wasting my time by posting a bs add. Just because something is "rare" doesn't mean it's worth anymore than scrap, and if it's so rare why are you basing value off scrap price anyhow ? I'm sure 1985 Yugos are "rare" but not really worth anything more than scrap ! And if your wanting a stupid high price don't put "want it gone this weekend" in the title, put " I want you to pay me 100% scrap value and haul it to the yard for free this weekend" in your title !

    !

I get that all the time
If you tell me on the phone it runs and drives GOOD
I am not looking to go on a road trip BUT I do expect to get a hundred feet >> As in it will start and drive onto my trailer

    Once there you get >>
    No Battery
    Dead trans
I could go on and on and on
BUT You guys (and Gals) have all been there >> Done That

If I can't start the thing and drive it 100 feet onto my trailer it DOES NOT run and drive!

This thread pretty well sums up my car-buying experience. Haven't bought a car in four months but at least I bought enough to pay for the winch I had installed.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

That should be asked in the vehicle recycling section.

This thread is mostly a rant about stupid people from craigslist not knowing what they're talking about. I understand where you're coming from.

Or another one I've heard too often,
    Does it run ?
    Sure does, runs great
When the last time you started it ?
Oh, maybe 10, 15 years ago.

Yeah if it hasn't been started in over a decade, it's pretty safe to say it doesn't run!

I run into people all the time that claim they can get way more then what I offer, sometimes I wonder where they take them or if I'm just doing something wrong. I had a guy claim scrap was also $10 per 100lb for light iron, man I wish!

Don't sweat them chuckle heads one bit. About half, or better, of cl ads are just people who think their rusted out broke down pos is a real "rare" valuable car when in fact the opposite is true. Often times they want you to give them what it'll go for at the yard, yeah good idea I'll just pay you 100% of its scrap value, because you don't have any way of getting it there, and lose money on my time and fuel. I often times remind them I don't run a charity and do this to make a dollar or two. And if they tell you they'll load it up and haul it in themselves, ask them why exactly they posted the ad to begin with !

the ones that get me, we make a deal on the vehicle, then they say as soon as I get the battery and the wheels off you can come get it, noooooo the deal was for a complete car, I also get the guys that call and say steel is at 10cents alb my title says it weights 4000lb (default weight for Arkansas titles) and get p!$$ed when I quote them 250 for a ford Taurus. I stay polite and say if they change their mind they can call me back, usually 50/50 on call backs

Unless otherwise mentioned prior to the deal, car is bought as it sits! I don't even mess around with those kinda people. I'll offer half the money if they want to al carte what I get with the car. And if I pay for it, it leaves with me.

Had one call me yesterday, quoted a price on her car and she said "We'll I'm taking the battery because its brand new." I told her that reduces the price by 50 bucks and she changed her mind.

Normally id say "Dont even get me started" But seeing how this is a rant...

I get these kinds of people allll the time. They reply to my ad, with the title "Paying cash for scrap cars" with a 95 Civic. If i have to go pick it up, its gonna cost me fuel and time, im only going to offer 150 bucks. Its old, and I wont sell many parts off it, if any at all. "Maaan come on, its worth way more than that, I was thinking like 500 bucks" WHY ARE YOU EVEN REPLYING TO MY AD? Hate to break your heart little guy, BUT YOUR CARS A WORTHLESS PIECE OF JUNK! lol

Another one of my normal questions when looking to buy a scrap car is "What condition are the tires in" Most of the time i get "They are in great shape, and have lots of tread left!" Get there, BALD and Weather cracked all to Heck. People, that's not even poor condition, thats called dangerous.

Lastly, what really bugs me, are the numpty's who post "Minimum 500 for your scrap cars!" Theres 15 ads for scrap car removal in my area. Most of them have ridiculous titles like that. People read it, and expect that from everyone. A lot of people don't understand the definition of scrap. If its scrap, its worth 100-250 bucks. anymore, and that's not scrap!

Drives me up the wall, I dont mind competition, but stuff like is mind numbing.

Well, that made me feel a little better! Great thread! LOL

I usually hear I "just" put X in/on the car. Had a guy once tell that motor was "just" rebuilt in that old pickup. Really ? Yeah just rebuilt the motor 8 years ago before we parked it. Really ?!

People tell me they "just" this or "just" that or "it's got a new battery". My response is always the same - "I'm buying it as junk - $xxx a ton. It's listed as yyy tons." Probably why I don't get many cars - hard to compete with "minimum of $500". Then they're too embarrassed to call me back when they figure out it's not quite as it seems. Same as the ad my wife showed me tonight where a parts store is buying batteries for $5 each. Small print - $5 is a store coupon. I'm offering $4 in cash. As a professional auto mech with ten batteries laying around, which would you rather have - $50 coupon for some junk or $40 in cash on the spot?
