    Question Chrome Alloy Wheels ? how much worth what is it classified as

    While patrolling in the Camry this morning i rolled up to one of my regular dumpster stops and see leaning against it 3 huge honking objects that ended up being 3 20 inch tires on wheels. I crammed 2 of them in the backseat and one in the trunk. The tires barely have any tread on them, so i figure there wont be resale value on the tires. After i got them into the garage only I see they are some chinese made wheels and the model number i looked up online said it was a chrome alloy rim. while driving home i tried sticking a magnet to the inside of the wheel (side mounted to rotors) and it didnt stick. I havent tried a magnet to the other side yet. are they worth anything more that the regular tin/shred rate of 11 cents per pound?

    Yes you did way better than sheet steel prices. They are Aluminum- whether chrome plated or not

    My core buyer pays a little less for Chrome Alloy Rims vs Aluminum rims:
    Straight Aluminum: .85/lb
    Chromed Alum: .65/lb

    You probably just netted yourself a good $35-$45 bucks depending on what your yard pays for them.

    Probably alum rim with a chrome plate on them. Would be worth .45c per pound at my yard. Or try a CL ad. Are they 20in tires or are the rims 20in? Those would have great resale value
    If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...

    WELL I KNOW THE TIRES ARE 20 INCH. --- inside the rim it says 20x8.5J does that mean they are also?

    Well by the sounds of it the rims are probably 20in. They sound big. The tires would have more than a 20in diameter. 20in mean the opening in the middle is 20in. Not the whole tire. the tires will have their own size stamped on them. For example either P265/75R20 or 10.5x6-20. Those are just examples. Not at all accurate lol.

    What do you mean by core buyer????????????
    Automotive cores are things like alternators, ac compressors, calipers, that are old, no longer usable or broken. Core buyers buy them for more than scrap value and rebuild them or refurbish them so that they can be used again and resold.

    oh, the tires on them are p275/55r20

    seeing that i only have 3 of them, the core buyer thing wont work? ebay? scrapyard?

    They will buy odd amounts. If someone with those rims gets in a crash and only needs to replace 1 rim, they won't buy all 4.
    Try listing them on craigslist. Or ebay. Only deal with ebay is the shipping. If you feel like you've been storing them for too long with no offers, bring em to the scrap man. I get on average 15 bucks per rim at the yard. But those are reg car rims. Not big 20in rims. Those might be like 20 a piece. All depends what you're yard pays. Also try and remove the tires. Scrap yards don't like tires lol

    A Core Buyer is Different than a Scrap Yard or Junk Yard, They are a separate entity/business. These guys tend to buy just certain parts- and pay much better. Think of it this way: If you left a converter on a car- the scrapyard or junkyard you towed the car into- would cut that cat off and go sell it to a core buyer!

    Yes AL wheels are a great find . By me to get the full AMT tires need be off . Most shops if they know you scrap will cut you deals on the dismount
