Getting real sick of no shows.... Does nobody have any decency these days!?

    Well it happened again.. Twice.

First, A guy phones me and wants a pair of tires I have. I agree to stay late at work tonight (tires are there) and wait for him to show up. 5:30 was the agreed upon time. Waited till 630, then I left. Bossman was there till 7 and said he never showed after I left.

Second, a guy emails me and wants parts off a car I have. We agreed on saturday between 10 and 3, and that he was gonna call me before he left. Waited all day for his call. Nothing. I kept my day clear for this guy and he doesnt even have the decency to call and say "Hey sorry man cant make it today" or "Sorry dont need those parts anymore"I would have alot more respect for them, rather than the zero respect I now have. What bugs me the most is, theres nothing I can do about it. These guys are gonna keep being ignorant A holes.

Gonna pull the ads, Scrap the car, and let bossman sell the tires at work, so we can both make some cash, and help out a local customer. Instead of the deadbeats that seem to be coming from everywhere these days.
If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...

Dealing with Craigslist is always a pain.

It's gotten so bad that I am actually amazed when someone shows up on time.

I have hit a point I don't even try to resell on cl. I know I'm losing money but I don't have time to waste waiting on people. that don't. show. time is money for me. I take everything to a thrift store and let him sell it for me.

I get people like this all the time. It really sucks when you rearrange your day for them and end up wasting time when you could have ben making money.

I've been simmering the past few days, having read Sledge's post about jerks on CL. Finally going to post here...

It's getting pretty bad out there. Lowballers, no shows, jerks in general. Recently I had a truck on ebay, guy made several offers. Started out with a jerkoff of a lowball offer (1/2 of BIN). I declined. He made several more offers. I accepted the 3rd offer, then never heard from him again. Did some investigating, turns out bids on vehicles are non binding, so ppl can and will waste your time with zero intent to follow through.

But CL is by far the worst, if only because I use it more than fleecebay. No shows, clowns and jokers. Or they call/text on something, waste my time, then say they are out of town and will follow up next week. Never do.

I had a dillhole waste my time with texts for TWO hours on a Sunday over some patio chairs. Wanted to know how tall the seat was, etc. I said I couldn't find my tape measure. Then he asked that I use a piece of paper (8 1/2x 11) to get a general idea...I mean this jerk was a huge pita. Finally says he wants them, then never followed through.

Had a lady from SLC that wanted some shave ice equipment I had. When I said I wasn't willing to ship, but that she could try uship, she asked me to set it all up, saying she would send me a check for everything once it was all said and done. I figured her to be a flake so I didn't do that. Texted back and forth for awhile, then she stopped. I asked again if she was still interested. She said she might drive up and see what other equipment I had. Then she stopped responding. I asked again. No response.

Finally sold the lot to someone else out of SLC, but not before agreeing to a price over the phone, then he gets here and di.ckers on price again. I tried to hold him to the price we agreed to, but then I just decided he is a prick, and let it go. Was only $100 difference, but it pisses me off when people AGREE to a price, then renege when they show up. If you're not sure, then wait till you get here to wheel and deal. I'd respect that, versus you showing up and going back on your WORD. Btw he can't read. He asked me a ton of questions that were IN the ad. Then shows up with money orders after I said CASH only.

Have plenty of stories like this.

People really are scum and I am sick of it.

It's getting so bad that I think I will run stuff through auctions only from now on.

I've always had real good results with Craig's List. I've never had a "no show". A couple have been later then they figured but mostly due to not knowing the area. One backed out after he got here. I was selling one pickup step bar for $25. He thought it was for a pair. He had just bought a $40,000 truck and was putting used step bars on it? As far as wanting to deal after they get there - stand firm. They have time and money lost if they go home empty-handed. You're not out anything.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

I sell a lot on CL, and I've had my fair share of BS. The one that pissed me off the most was this May. I had a guy who was coming from about 2 hours away to buy a few light fixtures I had. We agree on a time, I run a little late, quit what I'm doing early so I can make it over to my building in time, and the guy never shows up. I wait an hour, and then leave because I was getting more and more pissed by the minute. I get a call a few days later from the guy saying he's trying to figure out transportation and wants to buy all 300 of them. I still haven't heard back.

Then my most recent one was a guy wanting to sell me a bunch of laptops and some other stuff. He said that he would drop them off. That was a month ago. I'm still waiting, which actually kind of surprises me. I've dealt with this guy before, and haven't had any problems until now.

I could write a book on all the times I've dealt with no-shows (or rather not dealt with them after ten emails, four calls, and one text later). Few people have any sort of common decency any more. I think another recent thread on here mentioned something about it and how the OP was surprised every time a stranger showed any sort of decency to him, even though something like that USED to be normal. Sadly, this is true. I truly believe that the morals and ethics of society are slowly degrading into a selfish no-one-matters-but-me attitude
There's nothing more fun and more effective than hitting something repeatedly with a sledgehammer

I had a tweeker try to give me a money order for this hvac unit i was selling for $300. the money order was for $500 and he wanted cash change. i declined because i saw a show where this guy would go to peoples mailboxes that had their red flag up( for postman to pickup letters, bill payments) raid the contents and then would use a chemical solution to clear out the handwritten ink off of peoples checks and money orders. Then forge and put whatever amount in they wanted. no money orders or checks for me...

Had a guy no show on me Saturday and wouldn't answer his phone ! So I put the tires on cl ! This is most of the reason I don't pull many parts off cars ! Pulling them and storing them isn't an issue, but selling them is! I've let many good parts go for shred because it's a major hassle since 65% of the time people will run you around. It really pisses me off, people raised with no manners, or at least the will to use good manners, and not even a shred of common courtesy.

    I've got one for ya:
Bought a van.. Had a 1.5 year old battery in it.. With a 3 year no questions asked replacement warranty.
I get about $12 core for a battery where I am
So Being that it was a $100 battery, I tossed it on CL for $50 FIRM

Guy calls me and asks me if it is "Good" I said "Yes, charged and tested" It works great!
He says- I'll come down after work
Guy shows up and uses a coat hanger to test for spark. Sparks great!

Guy passes and says "But don't core it- I'd give you $30 bucks for it"
I said "Nope- it's a $100 battery that works fine"
He says: "Well I'm just concerned if it has frozen while it sat"

I said: "It was charged and tested- it is fine"
He says: "Well If you'll take $30 for it at some point- call me."

I'm pissed for the waste of time.. So I take a few days to ponder it- went another week with dillholes calling and offering to trade me X-Box Games, Subwoofers and other crap. I thought- "Well $30 is better than $12" so I called the guy back and said "I'll sell it to you for the $30.. if you don't come and get it- it goes to Core this weekend"

He says "Great- will you take it to Autozone and have them Test and charge it for me?"
I said "Nope- no time for that" He says: OK I'll be down after work.

So he shows up- hands me $30 cash and says- "I'm going to Autozone now- if it doesn't test good- can I have my $$ back?" I was at about my wits end with this clown. I said "Sure" since I knew it would test fine.

The AGONY.. the SHEER AGONY of dealing with @ssholes like this makes me never want to deal with human beings.. for a good long while!

right at the beginning, i tell customers/clients that this is my price and please dont waste my time

id rather lose a potential sale than deal with ppl who will waste my time and piss me off.
so i dont care if they get offended
if they ask, i tell them that i have learnt that its better to be clear n upfront or ppl try to take advantage of you.

This is what I put in my CL ads, and, I give a 15 min window for people to show, or call, if they are running late. that's it!!!

NO, I will not take less

NO, I will not take off 5 for YOUR gas. Add 5 if you even ask! shesssh

NO, I do not respond to text.

NO, I do not negotiate with te**orists, teens, or folks on CL.

If you do not like the price, look elsewhere.

When I post, I price things fair, and I, ME, WE, (the voices in my head) WILL NOT GIVE ... people power over me, to ruin my day. If they do not show, I will NOT set another appointment with them. PERIOD! There is ALWAYS another buyer, ALWAYS another deal, ALWAYS another.... so I "pass onda a**" and move on. my 2

I like that idea. I did something like that once. Was selling my old dirtbike. Said NO TRADES. NO i will not trade for an atv, sled, other dirtbike, seadoo, golf cart, tractor, lawnmoweror other car. Ill take cash or i will trade it for 18 $100 bills. Guy emails me "well... Would you trade for a boat? Heres a picture"

facepalm. Forgot to say NO BOATS.
But Thats a good idea with the 15 min window to show or call. Im gonna start doing that.

Iv had jokers send me emails saying "f**k you, @sshole." "Trade you my blah blah" or "ill give you 20 bucks and my @ss hair for it" with a fake return address, so i cant even reply to tell them to grow up. Wish kijiji would allow me to NOT put my email.

Seems I may have posted this before, but here it goes again.

I had a Dodge Ram for sale. I had it out at my parents...so this guy calls on it as I was out picking up a pizza. I was nearby so I agreed to go show it. He drives it, says he wants it, we settle on a price. He says he is short $100 and is going to the corner gas station to use the ATM. Okay. So I waited for about 15 minutes. Decided he is a jerkoff and that was his way of blowing me off. Headed home and reheated dinner. Ended up selling it for $200 more to a guy on payments. He was late on a few of them but he finally paid it off. I rarely agree to payments because I know how much people suck and can't keep their word. So it was hardly a surprise when about the 2nd or 3rd payment in, he calls and asks if I would like a "really nice big screen" as a payment instead. Nope, cash, and now. Oh okay...gimmee a few days.

Hey Sledge, I have gotten the jerks asking if I'll bring whatever to come for them to look at because they don't have a car, can't get away, whatever, etc. I would never dream of asking someone to do that.

No, I won't waste my time, gas, energy for you to either decide you don't want it, or offer even less AFTER I waste my time bringing it to you. Some people realllly have a LOT of gall.

Seems I heard something along the lines of "you attract what you are". This has me pretty bummed because I don't feel like I jerk people around and waste their time. I actually feel bad if I inconvenience someone. So I don't get why people think it's OKAY to be a complete @$$hole. Decency and courtesy is in extremely short supply these days.
