Phantoms...I'm with you on collecting as a great hobby but often not a good investment. I like collecting the shiny gold things I find while scrapping, but like you I only keep them because I've already made money on the rest of the scrap. I like to think how much value there is in my stack of CPU's but I'm glad I don't have to rely on the income they could bring in. Most everything else, I have to keep turning over and have always been on the sell it as it comes in train with my copper and aluminum. (There's that dollar cost averaging.)

Question.. is anyone suggesting that I not made money.?

Don't get me wrong... But.. I collect these because I can.. I enjoy collecting them.. I've even got some rare one that I've not posted and Probably won't.. due to the fact I like to keep secrets.

I posted a little history about My company and myself. I run two business, one is a comptuer business called Bit's N Byte's LLC out of sioux falls and of course my second business is

Pc Scrapper, When I buy computers, I don't pay much for it, I look at the going cost of steel to be a main factor in my pricing, I'm not gonna pay 35cents a pound when scrap metal is going

for per say.. 150 per ton, I would lose money especailly when you add up the plastic that comes out of these computers. I scrap everything down to the very min.. and Make as much profit off

of the ALum, Copper, Ram I resell that are needed in the store.. and of course.. Laptops. Laptops are great turn around in my store, may need a screen, harddrive or what ever it may be.

I pay 1.00 per pound for laptop non function.. if they turn on.. but has other issues, still a buck a pound, I fix it, and then turn it into Pure profit, So.. I do make money.. that allows me

to save these babies, Yeah gold took a dump.. the stock market took a dump and it coming back.. The Us was in a great depression and it came back.. I enjoy working both of my business

its alot of work, its takes alot of hard time too. I would not have gotten this far if it wasn't for My Family.. and Me treating My Employees Like " CRAP " so I've been told on here.

but really .. My Employees are a blessing... They have help me acheive goals like I've never seen before. so ... the moral of this is Yes I made a profit. but at the same time.

I'm able to save these.. for seeing how far or how many computers I've taken apart. 90% of them processors are from pulled systems that I've dismantled. I do a avg of 4 tons of steel

every other month. Thats just metal.. now we got motherboards, Cd-rom/Floppy Power supplies, Ram, Hdd That I break down to sniblets. Plastic, Heatsink, Heatsink with copper wires.

sata cables .. and Resellable CPU.. Lots of Dual core.. Lithium batteries. and not least Win 7 stickers.

Its a blessing to be able to run these two business, and be able to have fun doing it. I buy alot of scrap from customers all over South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa.

I may not have the best prices but I've got the time to teach people and to educate them like others have educated Me over the years. and I thank them.. There are a few people on this forum

that I talk to regulary. and I thank them with all my blessing.

So.. Keep scrapping,,, save them... and Make a Snow Angel or Play dominoes with them, or build a house. Why.. Because You and everyone else including Myself have earned the right to

do as We pleased.. We earn our money the hard way... and that is By working for it.

My quote from My Grandfather. A penny earned is a penny saved. a penney spent is a penny less.

Thanks GrandPa. and again Thanks for all the nice replies and comments..

PC.....It's great that you have two businesses that can work together like that. I know it is a lot of hard work, but when you get the payout of making a living doing something you enjoy doing, it's worth it. The added bonus of getting to collect all those shiny gold CPUs is sweet. Thanks for posting them, it helps motivate me to see someone else's hard work paying off.

Keep up the good work and keep posting pics of your treasures. Oh, and always remember the wisdom of Grandpa.

For some reason those photographs make me want to start singing "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" from The Wizard of Oz.
