not my normal car pick up

So yesterday I snagged a 03 hyundai elantra for 100 bucks, the catch is theres no title since it was abandoned on private property. wasn't too bad getting it on the trailer I'm getting pretty good at that now. the trouble comes in since theres no title, I contacted a salvage guy who said he didnt need a title and I told him several times I dont have one since it was abandoned. he said it was fine and made me an offer. I called him back today and I guess he handed the phone to his partner who then says he needs a title really? that would have been nice to know when I mentioned it didn't have one and before he made an offer. people make me mad, I did get a signed "release" form I'll call it from the property owner, a junk yard near me said thats all they need so hopefully they will take it, other wise I'm getting out the sawzall and cutting her up

I really dont however, from what I read, if a vehicle is left on a property for a certain amount of time the property owner has the right to take possession and have that vehicle removed/ disposed of.

Im not 100% on this but this is how it used to work when i lived in Arizona. If a vehicle is left on your property, you can call the police to have them check the vin to make sure it isn't stolen. After the vehicle sits for a certain amount of time you can go to your local department of motor vehicles to get an abandonment title. They do require the police report and some other information I'm not sure about. I would find out the local laws concerning situations like this.

Your problem is that you already picked up the vehicle and gave the guy cash. The vehicle wasn't even on your property to begin with. How can you prove you didn't steal it or that you willingly and knowingly received stolen property? Maybe someone else can help you out with this issue on here.

thanks for the info. I know the guy said he knew he could go to the courthouse and get a title but he didnt want to go through that. like most of my jobs this is and will be a learning experience so hopefully nice time will go smoother

might be best to cut it up .... some people do that to get the insurance money and have someone else sell it to us scrappers ... .without a title and bill of sale nothing goes on my trailer ...

Yeah most yards are 10 years or newer you have to have a title.I would just cut it up and haul it in that way!
