trip to the yard. almost cried.

Went to the yard today to turn in some shred and aluminum rims. Got .63/lb for the rims for a total of 100 bucks. 30 for shred. Laughed when the guy beside me threw something behind him without looking and nailed my trailer...... Oh well lol.

Was very busy at the non ferrous area. Cube van FULL of tvs. Mostly tube, oooolldd flat screens and crt monitors.

Heres where i almost cried. He also has A bunch of complete led/lcd flat screen tvs. One dude had a bunch of thick copper wire, turning it in as insulated. And the same dude turning in copper and brass pipe, mixed together. Scale guy said wanna sort it? "naaah its fine just take it as it is"

.......................throwing money away IMO. I guess some guys cant be bothered.

The ones getting it all are the Scrap Yard Owners, what i think is better than have it all in the land field.

ya I cant say that at times I mix some prepared steel with tin but copper or TV's that would kill me to do a few cents vs 10's of dollars is a huge difference

well lcd tvs should never go to a scrap yard complete unless they have a e-waste section .they contain a lot of mercury

Not really, the only mercury in them is in the florescent light bulbs in them. The amount of mercury in those is so minuscule it doesn't really harm the environment in anyway. People throw them in the trash around here all the time.

that is why the scrap yards make the big bucks.They strip and break down everything to maximize there profits.
.60 for the wheels seem low.I think i just got .80

Well my usual yard was closed and didnt tell anyone. No signs. No message on their website or on their automates phone system, so didnt have a choice for today. And to top things off. NOBODY was answering phones. Couldnt even get prices. But the place i went to today was the first time i had been there. Very impressed. Called me by my first name, even to the guy picking up the bin with my rims in it "hey bud go get that bin that jordan put his rima in" was pretty impressed with that.

Anyway iv Got 8 more at the shop still on cars that i still need to bring in.

Buddy, I see it all the time. I see guys throwing washers and refrigerators and dryers away not cutting the cords at least, I get .90lb for that. Some people huh?

By me you need to have ID to turn in anything other than alum cans or steel. So many times I see people throwing in much greater value stuff in with there steel.

Here you need ID for everything. They even take a pic of the vehicle at the one yard. Went today (hadnt been there for about a year) guy says ehh youve been here before, no 84 chev this time though. Dont like that yard much though. (2 locations. One for ferrous one non ferrous around the block. Went to both) Yard guy told me cast and shred was payin the same. Scale guy said 200 for cast. Hmmm

I saw whole computers and whole office printers! Forgot about those! Buddy beside me pointed them out and commented. Unreal.

yeah where i used to go they had a volvo loader with a cutter/puller type claw they would rip out the motors and clean them to get more also would take out all of the wire.They made alot of extra money by doing that.

I can't tell you how many times I go to the steel yard and I am unloading next to a trailer full of refrigerators with cords, copper and compressors all on. So quick to remove all of those for extra money.

One of the yards I used to go to the guy would use the crane to smash dryers then jump out of the crane and pick up all the change that would fall out. Allways check for lose change in the dryers.

I was at the yard last week when some guy loaded 6 servers off his van. He headed to scales dragging the cart behind him like a fisherman with a huge catch. I know the yard pays 5 cents a pound for CPU boards. Such a crock.
He lifted the cart on to scale for 410 lbs and 100 feet of RJ45. I leaned over to him and said "for the love of God, please tell me that your not sell this as tin scrap". His eyes bugged out of skull, like what kind of strange metal do I have here? The scale guy said that would pay him tin scrap price and insulated price for wire. He was looking over at me for advice and I didn't wanted to get kicked out trying to buy ewaste over the yard.

Went home and made business cards. I still wake up in the middle night with cold sweats and eerie feelings of getting paid tin price for ewaste.
