    My first dumpster dive (legal)

When it rains it pours, literally and figuratively!

Was on my way to dads today to get ready to pick up the load from the call last week when my aunt calls me as I'm driving through a downpour and can hardly see.

Apparently, my deceased great uncles son who is still friendly with my aunt had gotten word of my scrapping from her. Well, he and his brother (one does tvs, the other does computers) moved their business to a new place and when she told him about me he said when it happens it will be fast and last minute. He called her this morning, she called me and said they cleared out last night at midnight and there are 4 dumpsters I can go through but I have to get it today because the garbage man is picking up tomorrow. Four???? holy cow I'm panicking and drooling at the same time lol almost drove off the road!

Most of the stuff was around ONE dumpster that belonged to them.

my aunt went with me and I handed stuff to her from inside the dumpster and she'd put it on the ground or in bins.

I filled my truck with boxes and boxes and boxes and boxes of loose boards from tv's and computers, I think I got 10 flat screen monitors, 3 regular monitors, printers, flat screen tvs whole and in pieces all different sizes, wire, mice up the wazoo, dish tv eyes(?) that have the boards in them, boxes of other things I haven't any idea what they are yet, a huge big screen tv, towers, office chairs, keyboards, and tons of stuff that just got dumped into bins. Oh, and one christmas tree too. Whew! Thank god for those new sides on my truck or I'd have never been able to get it all in one load like i was able to with them on it and stacking boxes and bins as high as I could.

I'd be down at the bottom of the dumpster moving stuff and finding more good stuff going ''oh my god, oh my god'' and she would start laughing at how excited i was!

Well, lemme tell you, between the rain, the dumpster and sweating I can smell myself and it aint pretty!!

I almost drove off with 2 bins I had set on the top of my cab for room when I was stacking everything in my truck before I noticed them!!! LMAO!!!

So, one more contact made through word of mouth and who knows, maybe I will hear from them again sometime when they have another load of ''useless stuff'' lying around!!

Between the two calls I'm lucky I got any regular scrapping in tonight but I managed!

Here's a smackling of what I got, the line is about the same behind what you can see plus I've got monitors and boxes on the other side of the garage plus outside. this is going to be a full day of just breaking this stuff down, I dont even know what some of the items I got are yet. its so dark, I'll get a better picture tomorrow

That is awesome, the only thing better would have been for them to let you know when they were doing it and let you toss it right in your truck v/s you having to jump in a dumpster to get the stuff.

Often dumpsters like that you can keep getting a run out of for a wile - Keep checking for more -
When you get a hit like that it's just wild to think a simple look and $150 and up BAM !!

Started going through the misc bins tonight and found a couple unopened packages of hard drives - Quantum Fireball 3.5 series 1280 MB

    and these things:

    Terk - BMS-58 - 5 x 8 Multiswitch

I have no idea what the TERK things do or how to check if its good and sellable.

AND, I talked to the business owner again today and he said he definitely call me again in the future. he was happy I took the stuff and happy I left the area cleaned up.

I'd suggest Ebay auction for the unopened fireballs.
The Terks too, but not sure how to test them either

If it's what I think it is, nice board on the inside if you can't sell it. I've gotten similar I believe from my Direct Tv guy. Going by the description in your link, I'm going to assume its similar, so be gentle if I'm wrong. An also a big congrats on the dumpster score! Things like that are what make this work/life so darn addicting.

Keep it up NA, ya make us proud!

The Terk switches are for old Direct TV systems. The newer systems that let you share DVRed events through the whole house use newer - completely different parts. Any dealer that works with the newer systems likely has a ton of those around after upgrading their customers. I'm a Dish Nework Dealer and while I am not totally familiar with Direct TV parts I am hardly ever seeing that type of switch anymore when I switch a customer to Dish. 10 year old technology at least. Scrap value only unless you find someone who has broken parts who is not willing to go to modern recievers.

Eh, all I know is my guy brings them all the time to me. Didn't say to scrap it straight out, just if you can't sell it. Guess my sandbar is still stuck on old equipment.

But hey..useful to know I was right on what I thought it was! Either way, good find NA.
