just bought 800 lbs of com scrap in the load were 5 lbs of chips. 2 gold caps and my first 2 pentium pros.

Isnt it fun? Just found my 1st 486 the other day.

It is also fun when opening those old machines and finding sister cards with all the gold on them too.

I have one that I got the first time I bought from a repair shop, they presented it to me, still waiting for the time that I FIND one.

The first tower i purchased for scrap was a Pentium Pro. Got it for $5.

If I knew then what I know now, I definitely would have plugged that puppy in before I scrapped it.

I still have that one in my own collection. Thinking about mounting it in a shadow box and hanging it up in the scrap room.

I have gotten a few others mixed in random lots I have purchased from other people, but I have yet to come across another complete tower.

Nothing gets me excited like finding a Pentium Pro.

What's the best thing to do with them, sell them on eBay or sell to a escrap processor? I have quite a bit of stuff with gold all over them.

The one Pentium Pro I didn't keep I sold on eBay for about $30. Minus fees and shipping I still made around $25.

Listed it as Buy It Now and sold it within a couple hours.

why? are the towers worth selling if they work?
I haven't scrapped any pentium pro's I've just been keeping them.
do pentium pro's come in generic towers usually? i'm assuming the towers all have that little pentium pro tab
on the front of the tower?

how did the the chain go? pentium 1, pentium II, pentium pro, pentium III, pentium 4? is that where pro fits in? are there any other pentiums?

I'm just working from memory, but I think it was Pentium, Pentium Pro, Pentium MMX, Pentium II, etc.

The ones I have found were in servers, most commonly Compaq for me. I think the Pros were used in server and workstation applications more than for home use. As for selling working ones, I haven't gotten a working one yet, so I don't know.

I bought my first load last weekend, tore apart the one of the 2 old ones last night.. got a dbl gold cap Pentium, saved it in a special box for now but I showed the wife and well you just wont get that reaction as we do lol...

I have never found a Pentium pro yet.

But last week I found my second 'Triple Gold' K5

I have over 100 CPU chips, so a K5 is a 'One in a hundred" chip for me.

oh that's a beauty, looks sharp as a tack that one.
I like the logo, AMD-K5 sounds mean, like the code name for a ballistic missile.
every one of those that get cashed in for scrap and melted down, adds a little value to them as a collectable.
one day cpu's won't be selling by the pound, they'll all be individual listings.

I've got twenty pentium pro.. it took me ten years to get that many... its a hard finder... but when You do.. its like Oh Yea Oh yeaaa baby...

Moo Moo Lahhhh.. but again.. gold down.. .so hold on to them dang things.. I did and I cried... almost 1800 down to a whopping 1300 and a dribble.

Still got My now 100lbs of cermaics processor..

Most Pentium Pro systems were brand name computers (and well built), they tend to sell well to collectors.

There are black PPro chips out there (1MB cache instead of the normal 256K or 512K varieties), those will sell well on ebay to collectors.

Gold used to be $350 an ounce for a decade at a time and people are complaining that its only $1300+ now, makes me laugh.
