Those look like standard security screws....if they have a star like pattern then that is what they are. Many electronics use those...cable boxes, some cell phones ect. You can get a set of those generally at lowes or harbor freight...however, if they are really small then you need to go to radio shack to get the really small set. If you do alot of cell phones and smaller electronics then a full set feom radio shack is the best way to go. They might have a set at frys if you have one near you as well.

If they have a rpund hole and not a star like pattern, then those are rivets...gotta either drill those out or possibly cut with a grinder from the back.

Yes they do you can buy a set at Radio Shack or like I got mine at a family run hardware store

Yep that 100 piece set will take care of just about anything...I am seeing alot of those **** star ones needing the hole in the middle lately. The only issue is it only goes down to t8 and not the smaller t4 and t5...and if you do cell phones you need down to t1....just saying it is a good deal, but get the smaller set too.

I love me my dtv lnbs. Make me happy to open them an see that lovely gold on the boards. Even if they are junk compared to Hughesnet.

I'm getting a nice stack of them, may need a second "OMG ITS GOLD™" bucket. An yea..there is a ton of those bloody things on the LNBs. I got a nice collection of those to..lol.

If you do buy the HF bit set, just a word of advice. On some screws you will want to lightly twist with the drill, then trigger it to finish removing. Otherwise it strips the bit and/or rounds off the fastener. But yeah, that set has nearly everything you need. Even stuff you didn't know ya needed!

the DirecTV lnbs (eye thingies) take a T8.

When I saw your thread title, I thought about your previous post on this dumpster dive--insects in the computers--and figured you had another round of the same. But, no, its just the boys who designed the electronics exercising control over their environment...by PO'ing the girls!!

I hope the stuff you are salvaging turns out to be valuable. At least Sir Scraps sez it is. I guess if he's wrong you will need something cold out of his cooler to keep YOU cool!!

Looking at the pic again I think it's different from what I'm talking about. My LNBs come with gold plated boards, only things I haven't pulled such out of, is the ones like in the pic, with 3 square shape things, an a bleh board in it. I made a thread here somewhere on it, an there is also mech's listed earlier in this thread I think.

An I know nothing on diving, other then it can be profitable from posts I've read here an elsewhere.
