Don't forget to save spare parts!

Working on breakdowns today when I get a frantic "Help!" call from the laundry room. Wife was doing laundry when the washer decides to stop agitating and makes a loud clicking/rattling noise.

Ok, no problem, I've saved alot of parts from washers I've scrapped out like switches, relays, pumps, pretty much everything.....except for a motor coupler. I call around and finally find one at Sears, $26.00 for a little piece of rubber and plastic *sigh* hoping I get a call next week for a washer pickup!

How many parts are interchangeable between brands and even models? That coupling breaks easily if the load isn't balanced properly or if the machine isn't leveled correctly (repair people never mention that).

man, I believe in saving spare parts. I'm still hanging on to a side door from the ark, wondering when someone be needing it again ; )

Actually I've been having fridge probs for the past 6 months, right after I'd scrapped out 3 that had little electric fan motors and switches etc etc. Wound up with one $125 total catastrophe(soon to be scrapped for maybe $10), and two I might coulda fixed if I'd just had those little fans and those switches, which I couldn't have received more than pennies for. Thank God for an uncle up in the hills, who got himself another beer chiller, and let me have the other one ; )
