Its a loafing shed for a horse, there is about a 1/4 acre in front of it for a paddock area. The shed does have some storage area in it. That is my driveway you see to the right of it.Originally Posted by Bear

If you got a few tons of plastic, there are plastic buyers out there. They buy it like a scrap yard so you need to have it all clean and sorted.

Been just over a month and I got another text from him saying he has another load. Went to pick it up and it turned out to be just over 3 16ft flatbed trailer loads (65 dishwashers (both steel and plastic bodies), 2 water heaters and 2 ovens), so it looks like this is going to be a nice ongoing partnership. I really think because I did a bunch of cleaning up (without him asking me to) and did what I said I would do (including staying away from piles that his employess are keeping for themselves), he was impressed and figured he had a good deal on his hands. At todays prices this can be a 5k - 6k a year deal, and hopefully he will refer me to his competitor friends. Also, for anyone who starts to get a little down about whether craigslist works or not, the initial call for this came from my craigslist post. Now I just need to start working on some other plumbing companies around here, would be nice if I could get enough under my belt to make this full time and say adios to my 9 - 5 job.

Well, got another big deal out of this. There was two huge batches of stuff one of his employees was going to scrap for himself (about 100 water heaters, another couple dozen all metal dishwashers, about a dozen appliances (dryers and ovens) and a couple of other odds and ends). The employee is now gone (don't know if he quit or was fired), and the owner said it is all mine. If I could get a few more places like this that would produce this well, I would very seriously think about quitting my job and hauling for them full time. Until then, with my full time job I am accumulating faster than I can get stuff turned in. Sure glad I got several acres of cleared off land. Definitely going to see about checking into some other plumbing companies and see if I can get 6 to 10 places that produce well lined up. If so, bye bye 8 to 5 job. For the folks who have scrap yards that will take dishwashers with plastic bodies, start talking to some of the plumbing companies in your area. If they say they already have someone, offer your card anyway, and ask them to keep it in case they need someone as a backup or if their primary person quits hauling, that way they will have someone to go to without having to search.
