What is the price difference though between gross ton and net ton? I get paid on all my scrap in ferrous by NET ton vs Gross Ton. I remember a thread recently about being sure you were being paid in NET not Gross.. but if I bring in a 2 ton vehicle what is the NET vs Gross difference?

KZ answered this in the thread I was thinking of:
    Net Ton=2000 pounds
    Gross Ton=2240 pounds

Makes a big difference when figuring cents per pound.

    So at $290 Gross Ton - .129 (Say .13/lb)
    $240/ton - .12/lb

Still better than here.. Don't like the whole Gross vs Net game though- seems shady a bit on the part of the yard. BUT if that area tends to always pay GROSS.. then I guess you guys would be used to it.

yeah the gross ton you lose money but if it is that high you could still make a extra $20 PER TON.
I got a call today raising my price up $5.00 not alot but every little bit helps i guess.

For me , Gross Ton - Net ton , matters not . as there is another yard by me that pays Net Ton ,
I always look to see , are they paying at-least $10 and over per 100 pounds
1000 pounds is 1000 pounds what $$ they hand you is the truth
    -----------------------------

    2240 # = GT @ $290 $0.13 per #

    2000 # = NT @ $265 $0.13 per #

I made a fast auto calculation spread sheet to compare GT NT

As of today these would be my choices

    For MIX
    2240 GT $290.00 $0.13 per # or 0.129464286

    2000 NT $215.00 $0.11 per # or 0.1075 Lower side - .11

    ----------------------

    For Short

    2240 GT $310.00 $0.14 per # or 0.138392857

    2000 NT $228.00 $0.11 per # or 0.114 Higher side - .11

    ----------------------

I once in a round about way mentioned it , so I'll say it more clear
By me the NT yard is less finicky LIKE
they will take vacuums plastic and all , So that being said there are other items in the same realm they let pass
If I have a load with things as such I can estimate how much poundage I need to equal load pay out with items I can't sell to GT yard

In this case at current price I need an extra 20.5 pounds per 100 #

    or

    100 pounds GT

    120.5 pounds NT

Starts to get you thinking Cause I am not gonna give away 20 pounds for free that GT yard will take.

Naturally short is short So thats a in your face price.

I guess I still have not been doing it long enough
to see all the years to compare

Still first time since I started scrapping that my yard is paying more then others
Unless back at the start I just was not aware of the GT NT thing.
Most likely it's the GT/NT innocent days

    Copper #2 only $ 2.42

I get .80/lb on clean alum rims here in Indiana.
That is at a core buyer.
My local yard pays folks .60/lb- OUCH!

From what I see the yard I frequent is priced to get more and more metal , I do see trucks from NJ , they are paying $90 bucks more if not close to 100 per ton more . It seems this must must be an attempt to get as much volume as possible to handle there buyers.
Scrappers like me get the spill off benefit.
