I got freebies at the scrap yard yesterday

Any of you guys ever get free stuff from the scrap yard? When I was in there on Friday, they gave me a keychain with a magnet on it so I could tell if the stuff I had was ferrous or not. When I went back yesterday to sell them the old catalytic converter out of my Jeep, they gave me a plastic bag with stuff in it.

The place I like to go to is part of a chain of 4 or 5 locations. I guess the guys there like me. I got a T shirt, key chain, flash light, bumper sticker, and air freshener. Pretty cool, right? That's only the third time I've sold stuff at that scrap yard.

This week one yard is giving away hot dogs and soda and another one says free lunch! Also one place giving you an extra .05 a pound for non farris items or 50 cents more per 100 pounds of steel.

This reminds me of banks giving out free coolers when you open an account. They make big money off of those customer drives with overdraft fees down the road. The cynic in me would check around and see what the other yards are paying. Hopefully this yard wants to get more business and is spending money on pure advertising. It's possible they're paying less though, and a part of that savings is passed on to you in stuff like this. If you find the prices are in line with others, then great! And one can never have too many magnets! Or T-Shirts to get dirty!

Personally, I'd like a free checking account that earns interest with no fees, and I'd like a scrapyard that with honest, friendly workers that pays a good (or even great) price for my scrap. They can keep the freebies.

Ya know, I've always been afraid I'm going to pick up a nail or other piece of metal junk when going to a scrap yard down in Fredericksburg, VA. That one has a lot of country folks. Its halfway between Washington DC and Richmond, VA. About an hour drive to each big city. That place is full of little bits of metal everywhere. I've been lucky so far, no flats yet.

The place I got the freebies from is up here in civilization. Its a newish chain of scrap yards. For some reason, the bumper sticker in my bag of goodies is for their west virginia location which is over an hour away. Whatever though, free stuff.

They weren't giving these bags of free stuff out to everyone. Out of all the customers that were there when I was there, I was the only one who got freebies. Who knows, maybe the other customers already got free stuff in the past or something.

I got $25 for a used catalytic converter that came out of my Jeep, so I'm OK with that. I don't know if that's a good price or not, but I was happy to get over twenty dollars for it.

Funny thing is, the flat I got was from the biggest yard of a large city (well over a million) I like the country folks just fine thanks ; )

My yard does calendars for the next year. One normal sized one that is bikini models and one of those sticky-aint-never-coming-off ones to stick to your tool box or dash or where ever. That one is a adult one. LOL.

I've gotten lots of stuff from my scrap yard like a can crusher. Warning, I'm giving out a name! Omnisource, my preferred yard on Earth day give hot dogs, pop, t-shirts, $5.00 gift cards to mcdy's, and $10.00 extra/ton of steel .10cents extra/pound of non ferrous. They also have this nice incentive to get you to go there called omnibucks which is a blue piece of paper with the total amount cashed out and at the end of the year, you can get gift cards for all your points. I go so much that the gift card is about $150.00

You think Fredericksburg is country..my friend your in for a shock when you hit real country..LOL. It might have been country years ago but now it's just as built up an congested as the rest of everything north of it. I used to call N.Va home an visit Fredericksburg often still for family an when I hit up Kings Dominion.

My yard is a bunch of smart asses..I fit in well there. So yea..they give me grief, an the occasional flat..LOL. I just call it them giving me free metal! Them nails add up!

Sirscrapalot - Glad he's on his sandbar away from civilization.

I should add...After spending a winter in small SE Kansas town, my idea of country is far from what it used to be..lol. Not to mention I live on a sandbar now, so everything is big city to me when I leave it. Not picking on ya Flow, just having a good chuckle over what F-burg has become from back when I was a kid. Your new about these parts, so my humor might not be known to you.

Sirscrapalot - Why does everyone else laugh but you when you smack your funny bone?

One of my yards will give me $5 extra per NT over the scale on ferrous and/or .05 cents over scale on ferrous-- if I bring in my goodies to scrap and a canned food item before the 23rd of Nov. this month. They usually run a special each month.. send me the offers via text message.
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!

A couple yards i used to go to would give you one of those small bottles with a shot of whiskey in it. Around here if you frequent a yard they give you stuff. Gloves, magnets sweatshirt, turkeys around thanksgiving (actually waiting for that one!), hams for Christmas, ect ect ect.

If my yard gave me whiskey....I'd be in heaven, an so would they. LOL.

Sirscrapalot - Any gifts involving whiskey, or tequila will make you a friend for life.

I know that Fredericksburg, VA isn't really that country, they just have some legit country folk that come from the outer areas to sell their scrap at the place in Fredericksburg. People sometimes call it Frednecksburg I'm not exactly a city slicker folks, I ust live in a very urban/suburban place. I like to hunt, shoot, fish, and camp. been to the real country before. I've done a lot of camping in George Washington National Forest. Fun stuff.

I know you guys are just messing with me and I'm not scared away.
