    Todays Load

Since I work out of my parents garage for now, space is limited. Have to take in alot of smaller loads. Took in a tote full of #2 INS Copper wire with a few pieces of #1 in there and 320# of tin. Guy sorted through my wire and pulled out the #1. Had half pound of #1 and 37 pounds #2....However, when I got home and was logging my haul into my book I noticed the guy made a mistake...He switched my weights around on the copper and I got 1.60 a pound for my #2 and 1.1 for #1.

I would suggest going back and showing them the mistake, and offering to even up. Not considering that that would be the right thing to do, they will probably remember you as a great customer in the future.

I agree...Think long term rather then short term. Not only could you benefit with the prices you get in the future, they may pass some leads on to you when people call them for a pick up.

yeah, I gotta go with the crowd here, haha, ain't that a switch! ; ) So many reasons, not the least of which being it's the honest thing to do, and the guy actually did you a favor no other yard would(he actually separated the wire for you instead of just giving you #2 for it all). Then there's the "caught" factor, of course, you haven't done anything wrong here Abs, but they probably know( I guess that part's a gamble, but "if" you "lost" on such as that), the guy will likely remember you, if he has time to separate peoples stuff ; )

Yea..talk to'm never know, may end up doing you good in the future, an it's the honest thing. Probably tell you like they did Hobo, an if not..you just banked some good karma.

Once we were at the grocery store, doing some shopping. Place was hectic, an the cashier forgot to ring up my onion. Found out when we got home an were looking at the receipt, so we called an told them. They laughed, said they weren't worried over one onion, an thanked us for calling them about it. Now every time we go in we get teased by the service desk folk. We shop here regularly, but it showed them were honest people, an heck two of the guys there tip me off to scrap now an then. Silly I know..but I don't want anyone to think I'm a thief...even if it's just a onion.

Karma is a good thing, more people should bank it.

Sirscrapalot - Anyone can lie an cheat, it takes a real man/woman to step up an be honest, even if they don't need to be. - Me..I guess.

I plan on stopping in there before heading into work tomorrow. See what they say at least. Probably take in some little stuff I have around the garage so they can figure it out if they want their money back. Would rather be honest about it than not.

Update-I stopped in this morning before work and they figured it out that I was overpaid $18.25. I paid them back and sat around bullsh*tting with the guys for a few.

You must take in another load soon, as they will remember you! Also now is the time to get any questions answerd, or time to see if you could buy whole computers or other Ewaste from them that they may get with there steel.

    And the error on mine was I had 3lbs #1 ins wire (3 x $1.8 = $5.40) and 18 lbs # 2 ins wire (18 x $1.05 = $18.90) they switched them so I got 18 x $1.8 = $32.40 and 3 x $1.05 = $3.15. Over payed me $11.25 the guy thought I was crazy for telling them!

I have asked before about their computers, they have a contract that they have to go to a specialized place. I may have to see what would meet their qualifications and that I would be willing to pick them up anytime I am there.

A couple years back I took in a load of steel in my old civic hatchback. It came out to 63.18. To this day I don't know how but the woman at the cash moved the decimal point and cut me a check for 631.80. Because it was a check and it's a busy place where you have to park on the scale then walk in, I didn't look at my receipt or check until I was a few blocks down the road. My eyes bugged out of my head as I came to a screeching halt. I right away realized that I would now be able to afford the truck I was saving up for but my honest side took over and forced me to turn around. My check was corrected and the only thing I ever got out of it was dirty looks from the other workers every time I went back. They either hated me or thought I was stupid or both. Turns out everyone loved that scale lady and blamed me for getting her fired. Needless to say for the longest time I regretted taking that money back and It has been made clear by the workers that I am no longer welcome at said yard. Funny how back asswards the world can be sometimes...
I still feel good about doing the right thing too though and karma did come back to give my gf and I a 10 000$ winning scratchie about a year later. So I guess the moral is no good deed goes unpunished or unrewarded.

i bet you she did not get fired just because of that error because you brought the check back. there had to be something else going on behind the scenes

Yea, maybe the check was just "the straw that broke the camels back".

I twice had this happen to me, they didn't subtract the tare cart on aluminum wheels. I went back both times and squared up. I won't even try to say all my yard has done for me before or since.

Mech and carhuntr you guys are probably right to bad the workers don't agree. But you also could be wrong, i mean we're not talking about an onion or 20$ here. Either way it's in the past that was the first yard I ever went to and I have found many that pay better and are more professional. The only yards I go to have an automated payment system so no more testing my character!
Everyone else: well done on doing the right thing!
