    Cool Life of lousypirate

Wanted to post up some of my adventures as things fall into place.

Threw up a couple ads around regarding electronic waste (I don't particularly want to mess with steel, too heavy for a good return and too many people collect).

Already have several people biting on computers and other waste. We'll see if this turns into a viable job yet!

I'm going to spread the word to my neighbors as well, maybe things will spread. I'm considering stopping at some of the thrifty shops and pawn shops around here to let them know and give them my information and see what happens.

I'm working on getting the electronic waste from my work, they have two large gaylords full of desktops and laptops. no cords, a few printers. My Boss's Boss finally told me who to talk to about it. They are currently paying to have it removed. The crappy thing is that 90% of the harddrives are removed, and some are cannibalized for other parts.

Hoping to get them for ~$2-3 per, with the printers/monitors/misc thrown in.

Fingers crossed. The wife seems on board with it, maybe I can get her to start helping me teardown until she gets a job at the hospital haha.

I would think they would just let you take it all for free if it's costing them to have it removed now...

I had to throw an offer in there to get their attention. I'm going to try to talk them down in price (hopefully).

They have had bad problems with embezzlement and fraud with past employees. I figure if I pay them for it, they don't have to worry about that part.

An good call on work, that'd be the first place to check with.

Good luck an keep us updated on your scrapping adventures. We enjoy that stuff, same with pictures!

Next time I catch myself sitting down doing nothing at home, I gotta get a "what the heck are these" thread going too.

I do have every intent to create a "scrapper's guide to the galaxy" writeup as well. I'm sick of searching for information haha.

    LOL.

If you can make it as good as "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" I'll take several copies of the book.

Quick note. Why offer to pay them, if they are currently paying someone else to take it. I currently NEVER pay for any of the e-waste I get. I know in time I will. But I get all I can handle. If I did it full time I would need to pay I'm sure. I get all the throw aways from a repair shop and pay nothing. A month ago I had to full loads from a police department and paid nothing. At times I'm surprised when I ask and they say SURE. But I'm not offering to pay until the time comes I need to

The way I look at it, I'm paying a minimal amount to get my foot in the door. I already have several people collecting things up, just because I offered to buy their complete computer for $5, most with all cords and accesories, some with monitors. They are gathering the rest of their broken and unwanted e-scrap because they don't have a use for it and would rather give it to me than send it to a landfill.

When I talk to the guy where I work next week, I'll see what he wants to do. If he wants payment, alright. If there isn't a problem with taking it okay. I don't want to have to deal with the drama of "how come he can take all this scrap for free". If I pay a minimal amount, people back off.

no additional steel today. but picked up two plastic drawers out of a storage system, a boat seat, and a large hunk of glass on my 1 mile trek home today. I was pleased. The wife just shrugged and said I'm running out of garage space

well, Thought I saw a cable modem in a lot of electronics on an online auction. Won the lot for $6 (payed about 7 after tax and fees). Ended up being 3 brand new dsl modems in the box. I'm not sure how they would sell on Ebay, wife saw quite a few on there. Also ended up with 4 brand new (yet dated) telephones, 3 vintage cell phones, several other modems, 2 cable boxes, a switch, and I think some sort of telecommuncation device for operators.

Oh, and a couple telecom boxes, and some other misc... I'll have to count everything up after I get home. Then hang some more plastic on the ceiling for reduced heating costs and hopefully some more teardown. Need to post about 8 ads on CL too hahaha. The wife is flabberghasted on how much crap I have in the garage currently. She said I can't buy anything else until all the stuff I have in there that I'm trying to get rid of is gone hahahaha

    Life of lousypirate

picked up a load tonight off a buddy. he is in the process of moving. I'm hoping to net >$150 when I'm done

Doing some rearranging in my garage in the morning to fit more. need to talk to my grandpa about turning the truck bed I saved from a part out into a utility trailer. He already has the chassis. I could use a dedicated iron/plastic container lol.

well, my work turned me down. They said after a month of ****ing around told me that they had a (certified and licensed) recycler of e waste buying their components and don't want to deal with an employee for those matters.

On the flip side, my grandpa gave me the okay to take his old utility trailer chassis to make a utility trailer using the bed from the 97 dodge ram that I saved. Got a couple tricks up my sleeve for it too... mwahaha.

you get knocked down, then you find other avenues.

picked up an old computer/monitor/scanner/ and printer for free today poking around thrift shops. I need to get some business cards going so they know I'm serious about it. guy at work gave me another cable box and dvd/vcr player.

the computer was an old acer that had a double gold ceramic pentium processor in it

that and the boards had a hell of a lot of gold on them. That made my evening.

picking up a few things today from auction, need to get my propane tanks too. found some for free, paid the $20 each to have the valves switched over (30# tank), and have them filled for my garage heat yay.
